Here's the start of my M4gery build. I have to say I like the look of it. First was a Questar 14.5 bbl. Next was the CMMG M4 upper, followed by a Rock River lower with a Stag LPK, then a Stag handle. Lightest one yet. All bought with my allowance off the EE over a six month period. Nice finish, all parts stamped. Thanks to the sellers Cheers. Off to the range tomorrow. Hairlip extra

Very nice...! Nothing quite like the classic lines of a carbine.

I'm very interested in hearing your impressions of the Questar barrel... both as a part (on its own), and as a component (how it performs). Please keep us posted with a range report...

And thanks for the pics...

I'll let you know after tomorrow. The fit is the tightest out of my others. You have to bonk this one apart. I don't know if this makes a difference but it is different. It hasn't been headspaced but its torqued. It is the shortest bbl that I have. So we'll see

Nice..............which way are you going..........green/black? Or you like that mixed marriage lol? I've got an RRA Mil Spec stock and grip in OD laying around...

Well I have to say there is nothing finer than shooting an Ar that you put together yourself. Today was range day for the virgin and everything worked like a top. Spent most of the time zeroing the handle sight. Now after reading I see i should have cranked the sight 3/8 -3. But I did 3/8 -1.5"(or so) at 25yrds poi/poa on bull so it is close to poa at 50yrds and 200yrds on the 3(300)yrd setting. I'll do it right next time to set the dial .The gun shot straight and I can see that it will be very accurate with a small amount of magnification. Nothing like a light carbine to shoot off hand. Targets next time, overall very happy!

Thanks for the update emmab... and glad to hear that the rifle is what you had in mind. Have fun with it...!

I am not sure, but I am pretty well sure that the Marstar units are Leapers and they make a set called 'Model 4/15 Shorty Handguard Set - Double Heat Shield Liners, OD Green.'

I keep telling other CGN'rs that same line, I also tell them that they can build it themselves and save cash, but most don't believe it or are too lazy. I knew ZERO about AR's and I assembled my lower and a parts kit from instructions off the net. It's incredibly easy. I used common tools as well, nothing special.

Except the roll pins are killers. ;) What we need to save money, though, is one vendor that will sell complete kits at affordable prices.

You're right about the roll pins, but if you buy a set of roll pin punches, roll pin holders and roll pin starter punch set the job is a lot easier.

Do you know if those tools are at Brownells, and what stock number please?

Yes Brownell sells them all, the last time I checked the roll pin holders and roll pin starter sets were back ordered. Sorry I don't know the stock number off hand but if you go to their web site and do a search for them under tools, you should be able to find them.

Just did a quick search on Brownells' site and it looks as if they are back in stock .
