14" Benelli Supernova

Thinking about picking up one of the new 14" Benelli Supernova's, and since they have been on the market for a few months, I was wondering if folks with some first-hand experience with it could share some opinions?

As far as pump guns go, I've only shot Express model 870's for the most part, so I'm trying to figure out if I'll fall in love with the Benelli or not. I've already got a 12.5"/18" 870 Express, a 8.5 Grizz, and a 12.5 Grizz Mag.

I'm liking the 14" barrel and the adjustable stock on the Supernova. Its also the closest I'll get to owning a M4Super90. Does the Supernova a have some sort of plastic shroud over the receiver? Whats the purpose of it?

its not a plastic shroud the receiver is based on a steel skeleton which is then molded into the poylmer the use for the receiver makes for a nice light firearm i too am looking for one but cant seem to find any for sale at the gun shops
 
a couple of the sponsors have them If you're interested in mail order. Not sure if wolverine still has some, but P&D does I believe... There's also a couple in the EE.
 
I bought one new from a dealer a few weeks ago and it is really sweet. Great quality and with the stock collapsed it is about 31 inches long. Haven't fired it and want to sell it because I was supposed to sell my Garand to pay for it but I can't bring myself to lose the Garand, so the Benelli is for sale. PM me if you want it, it's brand new in the box.
 
I picked one up a couple of months ago and have had no issues so far. Have fired over 50 slugs and with the ghost ring sights its fairly accurate at 50 yards. In fairness I am no expert on shotguns but it is definitely well made..light, cycles smoothly and well balanced. I like that it accepts 2.75, 3 and 3.5 shells. It has a large trigger guard and loading is easy. At the moment there doesn't seem to be many after market accessories, in particular side saddles and slings.

I imgine 3.5 shells must be quite the punishment on such a short light shotgun. Sounds like a good piece of hardware so far though.

Are the 14"ers threaded for chokes?

Haven't fired 3.5 yet but have fired 3" magnum slugs and the recoil was acceptable to me..I'm 6'2 200 lbs. They are not threaded to accept chokes or accept mag extensions.
 
Mesa makes a good side saddle the extends off a nice reciever mounted rail in 4, 6 and 8 shot. I went with the 4 shot and find the forward most shell is on the edge of being in the way when cycling the action. The 6 and 8 shot look like you would have to grip the front half of the forend to not hit your wrist on the carrier or shells. I dont know about the goofy looking collapsible stock but the PG stock has a 1" ambi sling plate, and there is a sling swivel under the barrel. Mesa also makes a 4 shot carrier that replaces the sling plate. Sling on one side, 4 rds on the other. I have an 18.5", and 3.5" buckshot is pretty stout. 3" is quite manageable. As for chokes, Id imagine the 14" is similar to the 18.5" with a light contour and chrome lining which means it cant be threaded. .Fourty, is the 14" mag tube different from the 18.5"? I would imagine it being the same as there is no reason to change it. It should accept mag tube extensions just fine, but they will extend past the barrel. To the OP, I think you'll like the Benelli, its like going from a chevy to a caddy. Its big and easy to strip, clean and reassemble. Big trigger guard, big loading gate, lifter locks in up position when loading, shell stop override to eject chambered round without feeding from mag tube for quick ammo changes. Overall I love mine, it runs great in any weather and never lets me down.

I would agree too and I checked the Benelli USA site to confirm but there is no info about the 14"..I assumed the 14" would not accept mag extensions but I based that on looks only, I think extending it past the barrel would make it look odd :) The newbie in me!

no i was at p and d just before new years and was told not before shot show would they have them in stock milarm had one but no friggin way iam paying 925 plus tax for a shotgun i can pick up back in ontario for 800 bucks

i already spoke to you about doing a deal on my valtro tactical but you needed cash which iam lacking off rite now buy the way guys whats my valtro pm 5 worth on a trade on one of these benelli shot guns anyways. i figured my shotgun and about 150 bucks cash

good point about the punishment how are the recoil pads on these little zombi killers anyway.and as for chokes they are not choked but the fellow i spoke with at p and d told me there was enough meat in the barrel to have them threaded

recoil pad? I thought it was a hockey puck...overly stiff, but Benelli makes gel pads...for about $115 IIRC. I cant speak for the 14" bbls but the 18.5" cannot be threaded for chokes. For 1 they are chrome lined, running threading tools down the bore would chip the chrome and it would flake away. And 2: the muzzle of my 18.5" mic's out at .825" O.D., Maverick 88: .885". I sent my 88 bbl to dlask to have it threaded for remchokes, he sent it back and when I asked why, he said its too thin and would leave about .015" of bbl wall thickness around the choke tube. Maybe theres a very thin pattern of choke tube that would work, but I doubt it. .Fourty, I see what your saying now, they use the same mag tube cap as my 18.5" and changing the threads wouldnt make any sense, the 14" bbl is a drop-in piece so why modify something uneccesarily? I remember a board member here had an 870, cant remember the bbl length but he had a 10 shot extension sticking out way past the barrel :)

thats good to know iam seeing that this little shotgun isent going to suit my needs
