14 inch barrels and flitecontrol

Nickel and wood, no less! Its a BBQ Tac-14! Nah, that looks sharp. The wood furniture and silver finish is classy. Must be hell for tough as far as beating the bush goes too.

Wouldn't mind one of those with a buttstock added to it since we ain't in 'murica and strapping it to the side of my pack.

Nice shotgun!

I am a bigger fan of the Winchester Segmenting slugs over buckshot, I like that its one slug till it impacts then breaks into 3 so there is no spread to worry about at any range

Got a 14” kit for my mossberg 500 years ago.

Cylinder bore.

My favourite gun.

Flitecontrol had the tightest group out of anything I tried.

Didn’t do any actual testing.

But I kept a few boxes like I always do.

I have a bunch of Critical defense buck but I have done no real testing yet. I did assume it would like an IC choke best, like almost all 00 buckshot I have ever run. Some of the comments here have me second guessing.

That round runs with the Versatite wad, which is nearly identical to Federals Flight Control wad. It should be very comparable, except it will kick like a juiced up mule at 1600 FPS :)

I actually thought it was just another name for a commonly sourced item. It will be interesting to see the difference in patterns with such a drastic change in velocity between the CD and FC ammunition.

I threaded my TAC 14 12ga & 20ga for Rem chokes a couple days after they were acquired.... & both have 700 rifle sights TIG welded to the Bbl's w/ Mesa Tactical receiver pic rail & 6 round ammo carriers w/ Plus 1 mag tube extensions for versatility & both are set up for QD sling swivels.

Flush or Extended or Extended Ported choke tubes....options...options...options.

Buffered buckshot (US) patterns better than non-buffered buckshot(EU)...by design.

I've shot alot of federal flight control from a 12.5" barrel and it does just fine. The slower tac ammo is tighter in every gun I've tried over the faster version except my 1301 comp. Nearly identical between the 2. Close enough if I didn't mark the targets at 20 yards I wouldn't be able to tell. My comp is a 21" barrel version. I haven't really played with the Hornaday stuff much at all. I prefer federal

If I could find it these days my preferred load is Federal #1 with the FC wad. I haven't seen it in years, it may be discontinued. Last time I found it it was something like $2/rnd. Tough times for stockpiling.

Fellas,

Have read elsewhere of 14" barrels having problems with Flitecontrol because of the amount of blast at the muzzle stripping the wad or some such...but it was only one source/thread.

How did you find it through your shorties? Pattern as well as longer barrels?

we ran a fleet of 14 inch 870P's with mod choke and federal flitecontrol buckshot as well as rifled slugs for years. It's THE load for that barrel length.

Wish I could find someone selling the 14" 590 with the factory MOD barrel, apparently they sold them in Canada a few years back. Would like to see the pattern on one of those.
