What's the effective range for 870 or Fabarms with 14" barrel? Can I actually improve my long range accuracy by taking it to a 25 yard range? :p

Ive used in on a 25 before. I dunno its quite accurate with slugs... doesnt pattern to well with some buck loads. But for what it is...I like it alot.

What brand are you talking about? Remington, Norinco or Fabarm? I'm drooling at the idea of getting a 14", but I prefer Buckshot to slugs. Is the pattern really that bad, or is it acceptable inside 25 yards?

Fabarm's got screw in chokes available and there is one available right now on the E.E.

Screw ON chokes. They are external and increase the length of your barrel.

no its not super bad...but hey its all barrel. Slugs are fairly accurate. I use anything form 000 Buck in 2-3/4 to 000 or 00 in 3 inch. Also used tons on number 7 cause its cheap. Mine is a mixed up version half Norinco and half Remington. Get the Norinco and add parts or keep it stock its up to you... this sucker is alot of fun.

agreed...a buddy of mine can get less than 1 inch groups with slugs at 25.... I can get maybe 5 inch groups.

Among several shotguns that i own is a 14" barreled Police model Remington 870 . The barrel has been threaded and i use flush fit Briley steel rated chokes . The sights are Scattergun Tech ghost ring .

Fully supported , fore and aft on sandbags mine will put 5 Brenneke 3 inch mag slugs to point of aim inside a 5 inch circle at 100 yards .

The pattern with a full choke using Federal 3 inch mag 000 buck is the same as anyother fully choked shotgun . Pattern has lots to do with choke and very little to do with barrel length . I shot a fox last fall with the 000 buck and clocked him at 65 long paces with 4 pellets hitting him .

I'm not a very good wing shooter but i have an Outers spring loaded skeet thrower and from any angle i can manage 20 hits on 25 clays . I shoot the ghost ring sight on the 14" no worse than i shoot any of my other shotguns .

Velocity loss ? Probably a few feet per second per inch of barrel but luckily , ducks and bears don't read those books . A very good sporting clays , trap and skeet shooter would probably notice a difference at extended ranges , but i don't .

I sent a Brenneke into a 200+ pound black bear at 85 yards and he expired instantly with one shot .

Mine is in the hospital right now having a Badger Ordinance picatinny rail mounted and then the Eotech goes on .

I had Cal Pritchard of Pritchard Gun Repair in Thunder Bay thread the inside of the muzzle and i purchased 3 Briley steel rated chokes from him . He did an excellent job and with the flush fit you have to look very close to see that anything was done . I'm thinking that with the price of the three chokes and the threading i paid about $120.00 . I've tested patterns with my chokes against longer barreled shotguns with the same choke and there is no difference . I wasted about 30 bucks as the open choke is of no value to me . In fact i only use the modified shooting bowling pins and 99% of the time the full choke is all i use .

I e-mailed Brenneke to ask about shooting 3 inch fosters through a full choke and they repied , no problem . The fins on a Brenneke foster are not designed to impart spin nor stabilize . They are meant to swage through any choke .

Prtichard just ordered me 5 more boxes of Brenneke 3 inch mags @ $13.00 per box . I've taken a lot of big game with Brennekes and they work very well , all of the time so i don't mind paying extra .

I guided bear hunters for 10 years and never saw a Brenneke fail if it was put close to the right place . I've seen pretty much every other kind of slug fail at one time or another on bear so although it's just a personal opinion based on 10 years of observation , everyother slug is designated , whitetails only , for me .

My factory Remy 14" barrel with ghost ring sights will put 5 slugs into a group the size of my fist, shooting unsuported on my hind legs, as fast as I can shoot it at 35m (IPSC/3 gun shooting). I would expect to do similar at 50m if I slowed down a touch.
