14" vs 18" Barrel

i have a dlask 12 inch barrel on an old wingmaster . it has screw in chokes . i have a rifled choke for slugs and a modified choke for shot .i can not claim light weight as the barrel is heavy there is weight added in the mag and weight added in the stock .it does not have a lot of recoil because of the added weight. i like this gun and other barrels are easily put on when needed and are available everywhere.

I have all 3, an 18, 14, 12 1/2. The 18 has ghost rings, the 14 has a bead, and the 12 1/2 is a dlask with some kind of blade. I hardly ever use the short one, and for slugs I use the 18. the 14 is my favorite though, it just feels right. In the bush you also have to check the hunting regs, a number of provinces (Ontario for one) are limited to 2+1, so it has to be plugged. The plug can come out at the range.

14"... but as a tip... if you're packing it with you and humping through bush - get the 'normal' stock. Not the pistol grip. If the model you're looking at only comes with a pistol grip, you can sell in the EE and exchange for a normal in a second.

Just my opinion. I find the pistol grip easier to shoot, but I find packing/slinging a normal grip much easier.

I put a deposit on a 14" with telescoping stock because i have long arms and the LOP felt the best. Pick it up later this week whenever I can make it to town.

I have often read in this very shotgun forum that you gain\lose roughly 25 FPS for every inch you add or subtract. That is a rough generalization of course. That said I enjoy my 12.5 and 14" shotguns.
