Do you think using 140 grain Federal trophy bonded tip loads in a 280 are adequate for black bear?

How about elk and moose?

More than enough.

This year the guy I hunt with took down a black bear, no problem, single shot, fell where she was hit, at 120 yards (give or take a couple) with an 80 grain Federal soft point from a 243.

I took down a bear of similar size a few hours later with a 140 grain Nosler Partition from my 7.08 - bear didn't know that it wasn't shot by the 243 - both ended up just as dead. I was (loaded) for moose (140 Partition or A-Frame is "my" moose round in my 7.08).

I could easily replace the 140 Trophy Bond or Accubond or Interbond bullet with my partition style, for moose and not feel handicapped or insecure at all. Can't speak to elk because I don't hunt them here in the east. Do hear lot's of comments on "how tough they are" - so maybe they are the Kevlar versions of moose?? :)

It will work fine...hope you aren't planing on shooting past pie plate distance, the ethics police have been busy lately :)
