$1400 for a scope

Finding the center of a figure 11 at 200m kneeling is pretty hard when your reticle blends with the black blob your aiming at. Now my shooting buddies leopold with the fire dot, now that is a SR reticle!

Loosing black reticle on black target can happen regardless of the scope. A lit center can really help in these situations.

Is there any sightron dealers in Ontario? I'd like to take a look thru one. A shot at 700 yards would be a rare occasion. Most shots would be under 400 yards. Vortex is definitely not an option.

Brian ,how do you like the bushnell compared to the shv.
I didn't own the bushnell , only been looking through it at CT ($1499) for the last six months. If it was higher than a 3-12 I probably would have bought it by now. The SHV I had was an awesome scope, I regret selling it now. I think the bushnell is just as clear though , but not sure if FFP is what the OP is looking for. I had a Burris Veracity 3-16 and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I didn't find the clarity to be that good. I've got a stac 3-16 sitting in my gun room right now, waiting for her rifle. I think , from looking through it, it's better than the veracity but didn't come close to the SHV or the LRSH. If I were the OP, I'd get the Nightforce SHV and forget about it. If he's in the $1500 range.

Good too know Brian,I like zeiss conquest series for 1 in. tube.i wouldn't look at anything without side focus these days. Never looked through a Swarovski, but I do love the shv.

I'm selling a rifle and plan to upgrade an optic for my 25/06 to take advantage of the new barrel it will be receiving. Higher End optics are what I lack but I'm looking at some In the $11-1200 + tax range. So around $1400 shipped to my door
My choices so far are
Night force shv 3-10x42
Swarovski z3 3-10x42
Ziess in a similar range

Mind you this is a hunting rifle used for coyote, crows, wolves and sometimes deer or bear. Not a target rifle. Anyone have first hand comparisons with any of these.

Also interested to hear about other options for hunting scopes suited to shots from point blank to 700 yards

I have a Leupold VX3 4.5-14 with B&C reticle on my 257 Wby., works great. Zeroed at 300, I can use the lower marks for 400,500 and 600. I've found there's generally no time to fiddle with turrets on a coyote/wolf hunting scope, they rarely stand still long enough. Get a quick reading with the range finder and fire away.
If you plan to stretch things to 600 yards+, I think you'll find that a little more than 10x is nice.

If I were spending $1400 on a scope right now. I would take a serious look at the Leupold VX 6 3-18x44. Light with the perfect magnification.

Leupold or the Bushnell Elite. Vortex should still be in the price range i thought. Traditionally, Bushnell glass is excellent in the Elite line. I have owned many.

bushnell elite is good value for dollar.
I like my sightron s3 but it's more expensive.

I like the elite tac 5-15 as a cheaper tactical value option also.

Well I know of two sheep hunters that both had identical variable power Meopta scopes. Both had their objectives become so loose, one could use your fingers to unscrew them.

Not an optic I would ever choose for myself.

I recall reading that here on CGN a couple years ago...if we are talking about the same incidents, the scopes involved were Minox, not Meopta.
