heyyyyy fellas.

got me hands on 150 odd 140gr btsp hornady interlocks

Keen as to give them a whirl once what I have loaded in 130gr has been shot, ive found 130gr to be pretty sweet but expect 140gr to be almost as sweet but a slightly different trajectory.

Was going to use Varget ..again, but up around or as close to max as I can get it to shoot. which is around 44gr of. for a speed of 2800fps.

just got a neck sizer too which will help the case issues I had prior.

anyone had experience with these bullets? or with varget?

Cheers

I have a buddy that I reload for in 270 win that uses the 140 BTSP. His load consist of R-P brass, fed 210 GM primers a a max load of IMR 4831. His velocity is 2956 fps with accuracy in the .5-.9" range. He uses them for deer but he wants me to develop a mono load for him as these bullets do a lot of damage to deer if hit on the shoulder. Hope that helps

When I had a 270 that is all I used (after trying Sierra 150's Hornady 130'3 & 150's and Nosler 150'3) and had really good results from them when they were pushed to 3000 .

I have excellent results with 52.5 grains H4350 and 140 grain btsp. I have never tried varget in a 270 case. My feeling is it is just too quick burning.

I don't remember the loads off hand but H4831sc and reloader 22 have worked great for me too. I know imr 4064 works well in that case too.

I would be careful with that 140 BTSP from Hornady.

I had one disintegrate on the rib of a Whitetail deer. [I know, it really surprised me too!]
I had to shoot him again to put him down, after he ran about 30 yards and stopped momentarily.

The initial shot left a large surface wound with fragments all over the side of the deer. None penetrated the cavity.
Second shot slipped between two ribs, and finished the job correctly.

I switched to the 140 Accubond, and have used it pretty well exclusively in my 270 since....so far, perfect performance every time.

Regards, Dave.

I have never had a problem on deer, elk or moose with the 140 grain BTSP. They work excellent. They are over 3300 fps, and everything falls down with one.

Hornady also changed the cannalur location because of some short throated Win model 70 FWT's partway through production. I went back to the 130gr bullets after a couple boxes.........Harold

Harold is that what the ring is around the bullet, below the cannelure? I thought maybe a catch to allow expansion an to catch it at the shank to keep some weight?
