Hey,

I have 1k of these bullets. Wondering what you guys are using for your pet load. Powders I have on hand are titegroup, N320, unique, bullseye,
700x, 800x, and blue dot.

I know you should start at middle of the road lead loads and work up to low to moderate jacketed loads. Any other advice?

I use 3.4 grains of N320 for my production load, (with a 1.110" oal) - this is for my shadow and comes in around 130pf.
If I use my Glock 17, I can lower that to 3.2 grains for the same pf.

Vihta Vouri has load data that starts around 3.1 grains minimum with a 147gr. fmj. (If I recall correctly) And I consider the plated Aims as essentially a tmj.

N320 is around the same speed as titegroup (pretty fast) but burns a lot cleaner with low velocity / low power loads.
If you have both N320 and Titegroup, I'd recommend loading up a couple of hundred of each and compare the two after shooting the 200 rounds from a freshly cleaned gun.

Remember aim bullets are plated and not a true jacket. I understand the plating is quite thick and holds up well, however they can separate from the copper with too heavy a load.

This has a lot to do with material hardness. Aim's cores are hard cast rather than swaged, so they hold together better at higher velocities. I've tested the 124's to 1550 fps and tested the 147's at 1200 fps. No issues on either load. My current 38 Super match load comes in at 1390 fps.
At normal 9mm pressures and velocities you will have no problems.

That is why it is a rule of thumb.:D Doesn't always hold true but it is a good starting point as few manuals list loads for plated bullets.

I just loaded 3.8 gr of HP38, 1.15" OAL, with Aim 147 gr plated projectiles, according to a recipe I found on the Interwebs. Does this sound reasonable? These are my very first rounds; I've never reloaded before.

I have used 3.5 gr of Win 231 (the same powder as HP-38 just in a different container), in my Beretta Storm so you should be OK at 3.7 gr. Lyman lists 4.1 gr to be max using a 147 gr FMJ.

Thanks very much, Canuck44. They chronoed at 900 ft/s out of a P226 today. This is a little high, right?

Well maybe a little high but you are on the money for IDPA or IPSC for PF. If that is what you are getting then all good from this end. Every gun is a little different and I would be happy if you find the load to be accurate in that gun.
