Hello all,
I purchased some 150gr SST's and some Hodgdon H322 powder. I am planning on loading up a precision load with it. So far I have developed this load
  • Norma Brass (Virgin)
  • 150 gr SST
  • Hodgdon H322 39.3gr
  • Winchester Large Rifle Primer
  • OAL=2.800

I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with this powder/bullet weight?

We have used the 150 grain SST bullet loaded to 2,800+ fps in our 24" barrel bolt actions rifles.......but IMR4064, RL-15, and IMR4895 were our powders of choice....H322 is on the faster side of the burn rate scale when it comes to the more poplular powders in the 308 Winny.........In the M14, it should work fine, but my guess is better velocities can be had with one of the three powders I mentioned...

At velocities under 2,900 fps at the muzzle, the 150 grain Hornady SST bullet is a dependable and deadly performer on deer....

I have heard of issues with M14s and Garands when it comes to powders with faster or slower burn rates. The gas system was originally designed for 4895 from my understanding and it tends to run best with one of the two 4895's. It can sometimes be underpressure for the gas system and cause some reliability issues or be over pressure and really beat up your rifle's gas system.
