Anyone using 150gr for their 7-08? If so what bullet are you using and how do you like the performance?

I have also been thinking of trying 140gr Nosler Partitions,..anyone using them?

Thanks

I use 150's for my target load(SMK's) and 150's for my hunting load(Swift SC II's).

Both have excellent accuracy and the Swift bullet has wonderful on game performance.

My velocities for each are:

2802 , average for the SMK

2750 , for the SC II

140's do seem to be the overall favorite of the chambering but the 150's can hold a bit more down range if you are doing stuff at distance.

I've used everything from 120gr Barnes TTSX, to 140 Nosler Ballistic Tips and Accubonds, to 160 gr Nosler Partitions for moose and elk. I've been thinking of loading up some 150 Ballistic Tips, and maybe some 150 Partitions to give them a try. The 150 Ballistic Tip is actually a very tough bullet and will hold up very well at 7-08 velocities.

It will be hard to beat the combo of 140 BT's and AB's though - the 140 BT is deadly on deer, and the AB holds together better on anything bigger. One is shooting essentially the same bullet - same POI, same load, same trajectory, etc.

Whitetail, 170-200lb,....Black bear, 200+lb, anywhere from 50-200yrds.
Any 150gr cup&core bullet will work fine. Partitions are VG bullets, but simply not needed for smaller game than moose here in the Maritimes.

I'm getting a 7x57R going this year for deer. My list of bullets on hand to try is 139gr & 154gr Hornadys, 150gr PPs and 160gr Speers.

I'd go with a better grade bullet and step down to 140gr. I don't like to use standard weight TSXs in non-magnum cases due to the length of the bullet and given the tough construction they're just not necessary. When all else fails (or as a starting point) I run home to momma...the good old Nosler Partition. I would try a box of 140gr Partitions and, unless they refuse to shoot, call it good. True it's more bullet than you need, but it will always work, regardless of things going right or wrong.

I have used 120 NBT's and IB's, 139 SST and IB's, 150 NBT's and 154 SST's... Accuracy was good with all of them with their preferred loads, but I found a sweet spot for the 120's and they shoot "lights-out!" So, for the 7mm-08 I pretty much stick with the 120's now... It has plenty of energy for deer and is flat shooting... I shoot the 139's and 154's out of my .280 when I want a heavier load...

Yeah this is good information.
Agree mostly with all B.U.M has said, Partitions or an Accubond even.

what he said!

Wow. Says it all, really!

I developed an unbearable itch for a 7mm-08 last year, and it keeps getting worse. Might just have to get a new rifle to scratch it...

Dude... Tell me about it.
I pointed my Cousin in the 7-08 direction... since then its grown.

Contemplating it still although the 308 is just a bit more good thing for big game although room in the safe is limited..

I have a 270win which also limits the need for a 708

cheers
