My niece wants to get behind the gun to practice for next fall hunting, but full pad of 30-06 are a bit stout for her at the moment, so I loaded her some 150 ballistic tip bullets with 52gn of IMR4350 going roughly 2466fps, really pleasant to shoot and quite accurate at 1.25”@100m not trying hard!
My question is inside 150m at that speed, would it be appropriate for caribou and possibly moose if proper shot placement? I’m actually quite confident about it on caribou, not so sure about moose!

Energy at muzzle looks like 2040ftlbs and 1600ftlbs at 150m
Sounds like it would work on moose too…
Anybody uses that bullet on big games?

Yes I have shot moose, mountain goat, bear, and deer with ballistic tips all with deadly results. Mine were all 180grn but I’m sure 150 would have led to the same results. All of those bullets held together just as one would hope.

That's not far off 300 savage ballistics, and I've seen quite a few moose and caribou done with that cartridge. - dan

I wouldn't hesitate using that load. The lower speeds will benefit the ballistic tip in my opinion. Better controlled expansion.

Ive setup a couple rifles for my nieces in the last few years. Started with 22's, then 243. They shot thier first deer and bear with it. They shot them so well that I've slowly moved them up to 8x57 with reduced loads. 170gr around 2500 fps, they're still showing the same marksmanship and have shot deer once again. I installed a very soft butt pad on thier gun and will bump up the load and see how they do.

The expansion is an excellent point. I wouldn't hesitate to use them either.
