150gr 35cal bullets?

I got some 150 gr 35cal Rem bullets with a recent purchase of a 358Winchester. As these are pointed bullets, I am somewhat at a loss what Remington would be using thse for. If they were round nose, I would think they would be useful in a 35Rem. I may try them in my 358W for deer, but I would think that a 200gr would be a better choice.

Shown here next to a 250gr Speer. Pretty small bullets.

Kelly refers to using them in his 35 Whelen though originally for the 350RemMag. He says,

...I can push the Remington 150 grain spire point made for the 350 Rem/Mag to well over 3200 fps.

I think you are right in that assessment but it should work on deer of course. That 150 is probably a pretty tough little bullet though - probably designed to be pushed fast as a 358 can. I'm guessing it's of the older and better Core Lokt design with the heel lock and lead exposed and visible at the bullet base. Like the 200PSP_CL for the 350RM, it's tip appears to have just a little lead exposed to delay expansion somewhat I believe. I don't think they are made any more but not sure.

My Lyman 46th has loads for that bullet in both 350RM (2849MV) and 358 Win (a hair over 2800MV with three powders - IMR 3031, RX7, and H335). But note they comment on the bullet's use in the 358WIN speceifically,

Rather poor results were obtained with the 150 grain bullet but heavier bullets perfpormed well.

You're results may differ as their .358 test guns had groove diameters of .359" and .362".

Could be designed for single shot pistol use, like the 35cal 180gr Hornady.

I suppose one could work up a low velocity load for sm game with pistol powder and those 150s.

You don't have to use pistol powders. Most Single shot pistol bullets are designed for use in say 14-15" barrels, like a contender, XP-100, etc. For the most part these barrels only give up 100-200 FPS for a given load over their rifle counterparts.

From what I've read, singe shot pistol bullets have slightly thinner jackets to aid expansion at these reduced velocities. Don't forget most handgun hunting takes place at closer distances and the construction of these bullets takes that into account.

150 Rem spt

About 5-6 years ago I purchased a few hundred of these from wholesale spts. in Calgary. These were in the remington bulk bullet section of the catalogue...100 per plastic bag.

The only .35 I have is a T/C .357 Maximum Carbine and can get 3 shots /100 yds/ 1.10 inch with these useing Reloder 7 ....but that is only at 2170 fps tops which is pretty slow compared to what your .358 win. can no doubt push them to....if you find accuracy with them they should be great for deer and such.

I tried them in my model 14 35 rem.They printed about 4" @ 100 compared to
1.5 for the 200s.I blew the rest of them off fire forming for the 35 WCF.
