Looking for suggestions for a starting point for a 7mm ELDX 150gr load.Powders I have available are Varget and H4350. Thanks in advance.
I loaded some for a buddy using imr4350,started at 43.5 and went to 45.5 and started to get pressure signs,44.7 was the sweet spot on his rifle.COL was 2.800.
Only data I can find is from hogdon for a 150 gr Sierra hpbt(this where I got my data for his load)
H4350-42.0 -45.5grs max
Varget-38.5- 41.3 grs. max
COL 2.800
Most of the higher loads will be compressed start at the bottom and work up.
He shot a mule doe this year at about 125 yards threw the shoulder and it took both of them out.lots of meat damage, would have bin better if he hit futher back.
The ELD are for lower velocity , either slower out of the barrel or longer range shots.
They shoot well but have a fairly specific purpose.
For the OP , my most accurate loads in 7/08 are with H4350 , don't chase velocity.
Not sure if you want the suggestion but personally I'd go with a more stout bullet.
Start a grain below the lowest published data you can find for 150 in 7/08 , work up like you should.
I shot a 800 lb bull moose with a 165 ELDx 7 mm ,at 248 yards.
He was that dead , he didn’t budge, just stood there , dead on his hoofs![]()
