I can update this so far and ask another Q afterward.
so far ive shot 3 rounds at game and connected with each shot, unusual for me
first was 2 fallow deer read whitetailed deer sized, not having shot the FN past 100m, i aimed mid way up the body 2 ribs back as she was angling away a tad head down feeding, at the shot jumped an took off but assuming i missed with the dust flying, followed another in the fading light and in doing so in the scope see another yellow one standing looking back at the other deer, which i assumed was mum, she was down hill front on looking to her left, aiming for just centre mass, i collected her in the head/eye (as it would of been at centre mass area at time of shot) an stoned cold dropped it. it was a spiker.
both shots showed no sign of expansion in the opposite sides ??? 45gr 2206h puts them around 2700 odd. 200 meters puts them at maybe 2500? due to the entry side of angling shot it showed more damage than exit round hole?
head was also same, in the eye so hard to tell but out the side of ear area, round hole also.
then the close up shot, 30m onto a Coyote size dog, as it walked down a trail from above me slight slope i aimed just behind its head and got about its cheek and into the shoulder blades, appeared to just paralize it , rip a long shallow wound and carry on, a bit lucky but hey.. being so thinned i dont think it violently expanded, no doubt opened up but the dogs skin rips fairly easy..
thoughts?
ive shot 15 of the 20 i initially loaded, quite happym but ye to shoot a sambar read elk sized, an ama bit hesitant until i do so.
would you keep the load as is, or slow it a bit?
go to the 170s or ?
