150gr LR Accubonds in a Tikka T3 .270win

Anyone have any experience loading the Nosler LR 0.277" 150gr Accubonds in your Tikka? I've shot some Sierra GK's of same weight and they grouped decently but not amazingly. I'm out of my go to bullet and was thinking of giving these a try with some RL26 behind them.
 
I've shot them from a 10 twist 270WSM with good accuracy. RL26 will give the best speed, which will help marginal stability
 
I tried them in a couple 270 Wins, a WSM and a couple Weatherby Mags Never did get the results I wanted, and have come to blame the twist. Had good luck with ABLRs in 7mm and 30 cal though.
 
Thanks for the info folks. So if I’m understanding you the 10” in the tikkas is on the edge for stabilizing these billets? Wondering if I’d be better off just sticking with 140’s

A stability factor (SG) below 1.0 is unstable. Above 1.5 is table. Between 1.0 and 1.5 is marginally stable, expect reduced Ballistic Coefficients and potential accuracy issues

at 2500' elevation and 10C temp, 1:10 rate of twist :




  • .277 140gr AB @ 3000 fps = SG 1.51 (full BC of .496), optimum twist rate of 1:10
  • .277 150gr AB @ 2900 fps = SG 1.48 (BC of .493, reduced from .496) optimum twist rate 1:9.75)
  • .277" 150gr ABLR @ 2900 fps = SG 1.35 (BC of .564, reduced from .591) optimum twist rate 1:9.25

Great info, thanks for sharing. That is a very handy tool. Th 140gr classic hunters were what I was shooting with excellent results, both on paper and critters. Might just stick with them, though their tool shows 150gr VLD hunters as being well stabilized as well with BC optimized. Anyone shot these on paper or game?

Nosler load data shows them using a 1/10 twist. I have some loaded up for my Browning but haven't had a chance to shoot them yet.
 
I don't know if this can help you. I do not use ABLR because the tips broke very easily. I use Nosler partition and SGK 150 grain in My Sako A7 270 (very similar to your Tikka which is made by Sako and has a 1/10 twist). 55 grain H4831SC with NP and 59.5 grain Norma MRP. Both give 0.6 moa. MV is 2800 fps for NP and 2950 fps with SGK.
