One of my hunting partners wants to work up 154gr Hornady IB load for his 7rem mag (24" tube). He is hot to try either H1000 or Retumbo. I have yet to use either in my 7mm rem mags so thought I'd ask your opinions.

BTW I have H4831sc, RL22 & IMR7828 on hand(was thinking RL22 but he is stubborn:bangHead: )

Load data for either and 154gr would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

We used the H4831SC in my Father in law's 7mag with the 154gr Interbond and it shot very well. I'd have to look up the charge but chances are it won't necassarily be the load that works for yours. It was chronied right around 3000 fps which isn't the max for it, but we were more after the accuracy than speed anyway.

IMR 4831 didn't shoot nearly as well, but then again, your rifle may be the opposite.

Best of luck!
Noel

65 grains of H4831sc or RL22 does about 2850-2950 fps in a 24-26" tube with the 154 gr Interbond in my experiences.

When I get my next 7mm Rem Mag I'll be trying H1000, RL25, & Retumbo, like I did with my last one. Keep addign H1000 until you get 3050-3100 fps and call it good :shotgun:

Im getting 2780 fps with 160 Sierra's out of my .284 Win shooting 53 grains of H4350. That loading is not even at book max yet. I have sold all my 7 mags because there wasn't a big world of difference between it and the .284. 150 fps faster for the 7 mag isn't anything to write home about
The 7x57 Mauser I shoot gets 2825 fps shooting 140 Partition's without even pushing it.
The 7 mag is a good caliber, just not worth the extra powder for such small velocity gains.

7mm Rem Mag suffers from pathetic manual data, example : Hornady #5 they show 61 grains H4831 with the 154 grain bullet. The load I shot at 65 grains is four grains over their max load (wow talk about high pressures eh!) and it chrony'd @ 2840 & 2890 fps out of two different 7mm Mags. A 154 grain @ 2900 fps? that is a normal load in the 30-06, 7mm Mag has a greater case capacity, so something isnt adding up, pressure-wise.

Show me a 7x57 that will do 3250 fps with a 140  surely the Magnum isnt as efficient and in most hunting instances the difference probably isnt noticed, but more powder = more speed

...sadly most manuals treat the 7mm Rem Mag as though its chambered in a Marlin 336...

:puke:

Thanks Todd I have some data on H1000 with the 154 class - appears 72 ish is max from what I have dug up. Still looking for Retumbo.

RL25 is a tough egg, been waiting on some for several months but still notta:(

I used 7828 in my STW with the 154 Horny IB.I had to play with seating depths for a while before getting any accurate groupings.
