155gr or 175 or 180something in .308

Alain Marion won DCRA Canadian Chamionships at 2850 fps with GB491. Lapua factory GB491 is also top-shelf.
Load to velocity that shoots best in your rifle.

Time to do some testing bro.Work up some loads and go punch some paper. If you can drive the 155's at around 3000fps you might have a winner. If its factory ammo then i'll take 175's anyday.

Thats what I found. I had to drive them HARD and close to the lands, then they tightened right up:D

Also, Slavex, keep in mind that you might have to play around a little more with your TRG (I don't know what the tolerances are on your chamber). We used a reamer which allows me to seat to lands and mag feed. I run them just off the lands myself but thats my gun/barrel. You may find that the factory chamber won't allow you to get them very close to the lands (in this situation the Sierra MK is far more "Jump tolerant"). I ran into this with my HS Percision Pro2000. I had to run it as a single shot with the 155 Lapuas but OMG was it a good load.

Have fun, if you can get those bad boys shooting in your gun your off to the races!

Definately some good advise in this thread.

The 168's DO NOT transition well through to the sub-sonic velocity, probably the main reason people crap on them.

I just looked at the Sierra website and compared the listed BC's at various velocities between the 155 and 168gr SMK. The 168's have a more drastic drop in BC as the velocity falls... verrrrryyyy interesting!

I've had an off and on romance with the 155's. 46 grains was going good, I had enough room without pressure to goto 48. Though they didn't quite performs as well as my 168's. I guess i'll crack the books open again.

well I know 757Fixer loves how the 155s shoot out of his TRG. Length shouldn't be a problem as the mag on the TRG is very long.

i know this is slightly off the topic but i have some 208 gr a-max that i've loaded in my 300 win..very nice bullet...and i was looking and i'm like hey wonder what it would do in a .308..i know it's a tad on the heavy side and the length of it might cause headaches but i've done a bit of googling and some people have tried it...i only have varget on hand though..i know it's similar to RL-15 and some seem to have tried it with that...anyone have any suggestions for a powder i might try? gun is a savage model 10... 1:10 twist. Thanks.

I've just started working w/ a new F/F gun. My chamber allows seating to lands at 2.900. Lots of room for powder, and so far I'm liking it. Velocities are around 3050 w/ 155 scenars. Stout loads, but I think they're going to do well compared to my old 175 smk load at 2730! I'll let you know how they do after the NB provincial shoot this weekend.
