16.5” barrel & scope issues need help fixing

Hello NUTZ

Recently purchased a Remington model seven. With a 16.5” barrel
Came with a nice 20moa rail(mounted properly) and kuiu stock...what a beauty !

Also got a sweet new Nikon Prostaff 3-9x50mm
With Medium mounts

Here’s my issue:

Mounted the scope, leveled and adjusted in a gun vice
Removed bolt and bore sighted to 25m....aiming high I adjusted the elevation to its bottom most setting

I’m about 8-10” high with the elevation bottomed out.
Replaced mounts with LOW mounts. Still high but 6-8”

Anyone else with a short barrel rifle experience this issue ?
Is it the scope should I run a 40mm?
Or the short barrel or maybe the 20 moa rail ?
Am I overlooking something?

I’ve tried to google it without much luck
Also Called Nikon they weren’t sure either and offered me a new scope lol

****update****

So basically what happened was the “medium” rings I had...turned out to be HIGH rings and when I switched to what I thought were “low” rings were actually MEDIUM. I dummy that one!

Picked up actual LOW rings and it’s setting much lower....maybe even to low but I was able to sight it in no issues. I’ve posted new pics.

Does the scope look to close to the barrel now?
I’ve heard the closer the better without touching...but can’t confirm that’s true or not.

Why did you choose to go with a 20moa rail ? Long range shooting and you thought that your scope would run out of elevation adjustment ?

I think the rail is your problem with too much elevation. It is pointing the scope quite far down. Install a normal base(bases) with the appropriate height rings and try it...

or shoot it at long range... sight it in for a 600 yard zero...

It is the 20 moa rail go to the 0 moa rail for any of calibers for the rifle you do not need the extra rail moa there is lots of movement in the scope to 1000 yrd. I have a rem 308 16.5 in and no prob with o moa rail

Going to a non-canted rail alone won't get rid of your problem; the crosshairs are still 24-32 MOA or 32-40 MOA over boresight with elevation bottomed out, depending on ring height. It would still be high if you subtracted the extra elevation from the canted rail. That being said, a 20 MOA rail is pointless unless you are shooting at very long ranges. Whichever rail you end up going with, the Burris Signature Zee rings with offset inserts should correct the problem.
