16" DPMS Bull barrel $89.00

I don't compete, all I do is play at the range with my AR's and in the bush with my other toys.
All I'm trying to show is that you don't need a heavy barrel to shoot tight groups and to the OP that just because the DPMS barrel says it's a heavy contour doesn't mean that it is a target barrel. It's about the quality of the blank the barrel is made from not the contour it's finished in that determines what kind of accuracy you will get.

Let's see some pics.

LOL, had to open it back up, I only read the description the first time not the title.

Check out my latest threads. Pics are there.

my goal is to build 1moa rifle for under $500

That would be quite an accomplishment.
My barrel cost me $475. 300 Blkackout custom built. Has shot 0.9moa with 155 grain handloads. I haven't done a lot of load testing yet but that's the best so far.
You want a complete rifle or just the upper for $500?

I managed this at 100 yards with a DA556 14.5" and a bushnell TRS25 using AE55gr crap.

Not superb but I can (suprisingly) see this gun be MOA if:
-floated handguards
-quality ammo
-scope and/or better eyes

So what are those? 1 inch maybe 1.25 inch groups? What are you trying to show us?
You can shoot 2-2.5 moa with an AR using cheap ammo.

Here is a group I shot at 100yards with my 12 inch AR with an Elcan Specter DR set on 4x using Black Hills match 77gr mk262 mod 1 ammo.
Those are one inch squares.

Quality ammo and a quality barrel make small groups. No heavy barrel on this one just a standard profile 12 inch piston driven rifle.
Before anyone asks why the group is away from the center, it's because I have the rifle sighted in with AE black box 55gr. I'm not going to waste a bunch of expensive ammo zeroing the scope to the ammo just to shoot a group on the center of the target then adjust it back to shoot it's regular diet of dirty bird.

Is that good.

Those are 1" squares. 2" group, 25yrds, second mag through my new .45 1911, no fancy optics. Lol.

Not bad, but we're talking about the OP wanting an AR that can do 1 moa for $500 or less. Not sure what your 1911 has to do with this. What are the two holes bottom left?
Thanks for sharing though. ;)

Fair enough, this weekend, I will post pick of 1" groups from my cheap DPMS Oracle A3, at 100 yrds. The 2 on the bottom left, and 3 flyers, were from the very first mag through a new gun, then I got my bearings and compensated. The group was with my second mag ever. I think the point I am trying to make, is, the gun doesn't make the shooter. A good shooter can do well with a mediocre gun, and a crappy shooter is going to suck, no matter how good the gun is. That is all. Thank you. Let the testosterone fest continue. LMAO.

For the most part I agree with you about the shooter being a huge factor but when shooting off a rest which I hope everyone is when they try tell us what a rifle/ammo combination is capable of doing it should level the playing field drastically.
Even off a solid rest there is still room for error and I have shot with buddies who were getting frustrated shooting 1.2-1.5 moa groups with their rifle which should have been able to do better then when I gave it a try with their gear the groups shrunk to closer to what they were expecting.
Not trying to say I'm some master sniper as I have a couple buddies that can out-shoot me most days but I do shoot a lot and have made some pretty impressive groups with my 338 Lapua, 308win and some surprising groups with an AR like the one I posted, I wasn't expecting it to be able to do that with factory ammo and a 4 power battle optic.
I'm not surprised your Oracle can shoot well, My DPMS LR-308 can shoot sub moa pretty easily but it has a 24 inch stainless heavy barrel. The point I originally made to the OP was that just because it's a heavy barrel doesn't mean it will be a sub moa barrel. For that price it will just be a standard cheap barrel cut to a heavier profile which won't improve accuracy alone. AR barrels capable of sub moa accuracy are not that common, they are usually the higher end barrels and not an $89 DPMS barrel. Most AR's are capable of close to 1 moa though which is one of the best things about the AR design, but it usually takes a quality barrel to go sub moa.

189$ barrel, DPMS Hbar. Hornady FMJBT 55gr. You can pay whatever you want, the basic fundamental of vibration apply to any barrel. Cheap or expensive. It's all about the OBT. You WILL get ####ty grouping if the bullet leave the barrel at the wrong time no matter the barrel you have.
