16 gauge Shells

Kent makes "traditional game" loads in 2-1/2" 65MM length that are very good quality and will work well in your gun. I use them in a couple of different vintage 16's and am fully satisfied. No buckshot though, they are birdshot only.
 
Believe it or not Remington makes 16ga 1oz target loads. I found lots of it at Basspro in Phoenix, so they may be a good place to start. Oddly enough it was the danger price as the equivalent 12ga load.
 
Kent imports and distributes the "Gamebore" Traditional Game 65MM length shells from Britain. You should be able to order them from any dealer who handles the more common Kent Faststeel shells. You will need to order a flat of 10 boxes. They are good shells. No disrespect to Sapper33, but all the Remington ( and all other North American brands) 16 ga shells are 2-3/4" ( 70mm) length and not suitable for your gun. Several European makers like S&B still load 65MM 16 ga. shells, but Gamebore is by far the most common here. Hope that helps.
 
Does anyone know of a store that might stock these Gamebore loads? I am going to ask about ordering some in at Epps but maybe someone has seen stock someplace.
 
What year was your 97 made? It might well be 2 3/4" (standardized in the early '30s) if not have a smith lengthen your chamber. 97's have lots of meat and action length to support the lengthening.
