I've started shooting a 16g Ithica pump a couple of years ago and love it so much that now I'm looking for an o/u as well. I've checked out some of the Browning options but wondering if anyone here shoots a Hulgu/Dehaan or any other makes that I should be looking at. Seems that options are limited in the 16's in these parts. Let me know what you have out there and how it shoots.
Thanks

Only one I have ever shot in O/U was the brownings that Prophet River sells which is some sweet. Sorry

Th F.A.I.R. Italian made o/u 16ga are real sweet as well, made on a true 16ga frame. I have herd the hulgu offerings are nice but a little on the heavy side as they are made on a 16ga frame but cut a short cut and just bored out 12ga barrels to 16ga.

I agree that F.A.I.R does make a beautiful shotgun and I have certainly toyed with that option. They do seem a little bit pricier though.

I shoot a Browning Citori and a Merkel. The Merkel is far better made, better fit and finish, but costs more than twice as much and they don't make them in 16 ga anymore. A good used one is a wonderful find. Here's mine -

Longwalker that is a beauty! Do you know if the Merkel's were all fixed chokes or are some interchangeable? If you don't mind me asking did you but it new or used? If new from which dealer? Thanks

All Merkels are fixed chokes as far as I know. Actually I would not want to own a hand built double with interchangeable choke tubes. They are "vastly overrated" for use in hunting guns in my opinion. Choke tubes require that the barrels be too thick for proper balance and handling, and the only way around that is to flare the ends of the barrels to accommodate the threads. Someone will chime in that "thinwall" tubes solve both problems, but they still are limited in their construction and patterning ability. Merkels are individually hand patterned at the factory. They must hit point of aim and with the proper pattern density for the choke designation before they leave the factory. The fixed chokes are longer than typical removable tubes, and have a parallel section to aid pattern uniformity after the shot is squeezed through the tapered section. They DO pattern better. The older ones are set up for fiber wads, and typically shoot a bit tight for choke designation with plastic shotcup wads. A very skilled shotgun smith can open up any old, tightly choked gun to a more moderate choke and taper the forcing cones for plastic wads. There are only a few smiths in Canada skilled enough to do that properly on a Merkel or similar hand built double.
My gun is very used, from the 1950's or thereabouts, but not the least bit "worn out" - I don't think it is possible to wear out a Merkel by hunting with it. It is a two barrel set with 16/16 2-3/4" ( 70mm) Improved Modified over Modified ( 3/4 over 1/2 choke) and 16/70mm 1/1 choke over 7x57R with a claw mounted 4x scope. It was a private sale, but I did see some like it on Martini Gunmakers site.

Good points on the chokes... In your opinion are the citoris worth the price or should I be looking at some of the CZ offerings. The sxs seem to be more readily available in 16g but I have a number of sxs and wish for an o/u that works well in the field.

Sorry for the late reply bigbooner, I was off to Mexico for a week and just got back.
The Citori that I have has served me well. It was priced at a premium of about $300 from the 20 or 12 ga versions when I bought it because it was a limited run item. There is one on the EE now that looks to be in good shape and about $600 less than I paid.
I don't have personal experience with the CZ guns but have handled a friend's and read some reviews, if they fit you they would be a good bet.
