I got a couple boxes of 160 grain vintage Dominion brand 270 ammo at a gun show a few years ago because I have two 270 rifles, one using 130 grain bullets and the other 150 grain loads so I thought maybe I should try these old cartridges for black bear.

I haven't tried them in either rifle to see how they shoot yet though.

Well MD, I know of an old German guy who shot a 270 Win with home loads using 160 grns for GB...
ack when one could apply for LEH and all.
So, I think they are more than capable of dispatching a good sized boar should you blunder upon ...err I mean find one to your liking ;)
Of course testing the accuracy is foremost.
Good hunting.

That load was produced to meet the Quebec requirements at the time for moose hunting.
Can't see any reason why it would not be fine for bear.

Should work fine if stored reasonably. I tried Sako 156gr cartridges in one of my .270 rifles (specifically my BAR) and it loved them, so no doubt the heavier, rounder nosed bullets work IMO.

I recently tried some old Dominion 160 gr 7x57. Accuracy was fine, excellent in fact, considering. Three quarter-inch wide and inch and a quarter vertical spread at 100 yds. Velocity, however, was low, 2500 fps as opposed to the 2,650 listed on the box.

How old is the ammo?

I remember Dominion ammo from the 1970's, (had a box of 160 gr RN 7x57) but the supply seems to have dried up in the 1980's.

If your ammo is in good condition, it will probably work alright.

Considering how minor the cost of ammo is in comparison to the cost of a hunt (including the desirability for reliable function if you run into whatever you're hunting) why not just get a fresh box of ammo and save the vintage stuff for your ammo collection?

I don't collect ammo.

It would work fine for black bear . but I would try a few out to see how they work . plus carry some newer rounds with you just incase .
