160 grain bullets in 270?

I knew a customer who would shoot GB with 160grn bullets from his .270.
Used 160grn for everything....shot several GB and lived to tell the stories of his hunts.
Me, I would go with something bigger on GB, but in today's eco climate we have no need to worry about GB as they are endangered ;).
What condition those boxes in MD ?
Rob

Where I Roam GB sightings have increased dramatically the past few years. Typically I see 2 GB for every Moose. While I prefer my tried and true .338 with 250 Grain Slugs, a experienced Hunter-res with 160 Grain Bullets in the 270 should have no problems taking down an non aggravated GB.
Cheers !

One of my favorite stories when I was a newby two older gents I knew shot a nice whitetail up near Cranbrook but could only manage to get the 2 hind quarters out that night before dark .Next morn they went to get the rest and the Griz had dragged the front half a mile down the road and pissed and crapped over it to discourage others. Jim one of the guys looked at his partner and then at his .270 with 130g and said lets go wouldn't want to shoot him with this and piss him off .:)

Do you know what velocity you were getting with the 180s?

I think it was around 2500-2600 fps and I was using about 52-53gr. of 7828 SSC if my memory serves me right, but I would have to go search for my load data as I don't have it on hand at the moment.

I think I may have 3 unopened boxes of the Woodleigh 180gr .277 bullets left in my stash. Maybe I should put them up for sale. They actually say for .270 Winchester on the box too. I only used one box of 50 bullets and still have about 20 loaded rounds for my keeping and future use.

I have a .300 Winchester Mag now and that is what I use for shooting heavy for calibre bullets with mostly.

The 180gr. 270 bullets are overkill for most game I use my .270 for (deer etc.) and over penetrate even if they do mushroom nice. They are great for taking a large animal like a moose from the front or behind as they will still 90% of the time travel the full length if not exit even after hitting bone.

In Western Canada, maybe try Larch Valley Enterprises - I think they were the Western Canada Woodleigh distributor - I have made several purchases from them - out of Cochrane, Alberta, I think. Not sure what he has left in stock since the Woodleigh factory in Australia burned down.

Are they still in business?

They don't seem to have an accessible website other than they are listed as importers.

I have a couple dozen Barnes 180gr Original round nose soft points I'd sell if anybody is interested, shoot me a PM

Interesting. I haven’t had any luck getting the 150s to shoot in several Wins, a WSM and a couple Weatherbys. They stabilized; just wouldnt shoot.

I couldn't get the 160 partitions to shoot out of my WSM and man did I try! Really wanted that to be my go to bullet but just wasn't ment to be. The 130 AB and the 150 NP shoot the best for me.
