162gr Eldx in 7x57

I've shot plenty with the 162gr A-max in a 7x57, (the 162 A-max, is well regarded, at moderate Velocity) and a few with the 162 ELDX, cant see any noticeable difference, I am pushing them a bit harder than you, at 2650, from a Model 70.
Deer, Thar, pigs, few sheep, chamois, and lots goats, 160gr HC soft point for heavier boned Game,

Would you hunt African game with them in a 7x57?

Go have a look at the 223 for big game thread and the last few posts address that very topic!

I have nothing but respect for the 7x57. I have hunted with rifles in this chambering since 1966, and
have taken game right up to and including Moose and Elk. However, the vast majority of animals shot were
taken with Nosler Partitions, from 140 - 160 grain. I am not particularly fond of frangible bullets in any
hunting ammo, so have no comment regarding the ELDX. Regards, Eagleye.

The 7x57 started its life shooting "long, heavy for caliber" bullets. It does that very well, if twist rates and loads are tuned to the rifles the cartridge is being shot from.

I have 7x57 rifles chambered in Spanish 1893 Mausers, Serbian K98s, Brazilian M1908 and M1935, as well as a couple of sporters built on surplus 98 actions.

Luckily, they all have excellent bores and good chambers.

The Brazilian rifles will shoot heavier bullets OK, but prefer the 140-150 grain offerings.

The others, with tighter twist rates love long, heavy bullets and velocities can be substantially bumped up from most reloading manual listings if the rifles they're chambered in are stronger.

I've never used ELDX bullets for hunting, but I know folks who do and they like them. They do shoot well though.

Anyone ever load 162gr Eldx in a 7x57?
I’m getting 2550fps using 4350. Wonder if anyone has experience with how that bullet did on game?
i loaded an hunted some in 7 RM at closer to 3000fps, intended to shoot past 200m, shot a sambar hind with them no problems, through an through ribs at 300 meters-- im going to be loading the 178gr .30 in 30-06 down the track, mildly too, they will work well slower-- obv marketed for high bc -- its still a glorofied cup an core :)

Allegedly WDM “Karamojo” Bell killed 1,011 elephants with the 7x57. He used a 175gr FMJ bullet. Admittedly Bell knew elephant anatomy and how to precisely place bullets.
While Hemingway used a Westly Richards Nitro Express: For ultimate stopping power of dangerous big-game animals while on safari, Hemingway carried this double-barreled rifle in . 577 caliber. He never shot an elephant with the gun, but took both a lion, rhino and possibly a Cape buffalo, he also shot a 30:06 and a Browning Superposed.
I am far from an Expert, but I would not use a 7x57 on a snuffleupaguzz , nor a 30:06 for an African Lion.
For starters it would be at the least a .460 Wby, only because nothing shoots flatter or hits harder ;)
Congrats to those who have done the Dark Continent and those who are about to embark of that journey.

I’m told Big cats aren’t that hard to kill but if I was hunting Lions I’d want something a bit larger too!
