1651 Husky

Hi guys,

I inherited what looks like a Husquvarna 1651 special in a 30.06 caliber and shot it at the range last weekend trying to work up a good load. Am trying 150 grain and 165 grain in a few different powders ( Win 748, Imr 4350, 4064, 4895) So far the 4350 is best group (still not keyholeing though) with the 150 grain Hornady SST, have yet to shoot the 165 grain Nosler accubond. The question I have is about the trigger as it seem a hard pull compared to my Remmington 700 actions. Does anyone out there know or have experience in how to adjust the trigger pull down to about 3 lbs? Any tips on load/ bullet combinations? As always your input is very appreciated.

Not likely, as the 1651 was exclusively a .358 Norma Magnum rifle. I suspect you have a Crown Grade (3000) model, but without a good description or better, a picture, I can't be sure of this, so check the first few pages of the HVA rifles sticky on top of this board...
A standard Mauser trigger's best pull typically is around 4-5 pounds. Lower than this us considered unsafe condition (related to sear engagement and firing pin / trigger springs tension). To get better than this (most aftermarket trigger manufacturers suggest not going lower than 3.5 #), you better get yourself an aftermarket trigger.
You still can POLISH the contacting surfaces (sear and cocking piece) but be careful not to change the angles, you can also play with the trigger tension spring (I suggest you get a replacement sping to do so) but you need to know what you're doing because this can lead to accidental discharge and erratic sear/cocking piece holding capacity.

As for which bullet shoots better, it's up to each rifle but usually 180 grains flat base bullets shoot great in those rifles. The rate of twist is 1:210mm (1:12").
