168 amax discontinued?

I don't think so. I'm still buying the 178gr AMAX, as the ELD Match bullets are only in 208gr right now.

There is the ELD-X in the typical weights (no 168 though), but those are designed as hunting bullets (albeit with long range performance).

AMAX is still shown as a current product on their website as well.

Could explain this...

168gr Amax
MV - 2710fps
985yd

*not part of the .224 group, obviously ;)

^^^^ very interesting -- must have been scratching the head for a while after that 1

It was disturbing, more so because the other 9 were stellar.
Oddly enough, I was burning up the last of my Amax's that day. I had already developed a Berger load.
First for me though.

168s aren't known for their LR stability. The fact that you had the majority of your AMAXs hitting pointy end first at 985 yds is more surprising.

At that distance I dont see an issue with one of the 168 being unstable.
It still made it near the others, which isnt bad for an unstable bullet ;)

It's the 168 SMK that made the reputation for poor stability at LR. The 168 AMAX's tend to perform better than the SMK's at LR.

I have two boxes of loaded superformance 168amax recently purchased from cabellas, they won't
Chamber in my VTR. Is it possible that there is a problem with the loaded ammo?

They won't chamber, at all? Are the bullets not jumping the feed ramp or you can't close the bolt, or...?
Can you feed a round by hand?

Any marks left on the bullet, from the lands?

I'm assuming .308 Winchester ammo in a .308 Winchester chamber. I know of a guy that bought .308 Norma for his .308 Win.

Send me the ammo. I'll test them for you in my gun and report back?
