Is this an ok setup for hunting/target? I just bought some of these bullets for reloading and planning on making them my more permanent round for my 700ltr.

What are you going to hunt? The match type bullets are only good for punching paper with the exception of something like ground hogs.

I have the same rifle and it loves Sierra 168gr Match Kings. If your rifle likes the SMK's as well in 168 gr then for a hunting bullet try the 165gr Sierra Hollow Point Boat Tail Game Kings's. They are a proper hunting bullet and would work well for deer. My expierence has been that they shoot almost as well as the 168gr SMK's

Like hgeo33 says, match bullets aren't made for hunting large game. With a carefully developed load, they'll produce some amazing groups on a target though. IMR4064 is a good powder.

These will likely be used for target shooting though, I will probably get some softpoints for hunting later on though.

As for powder, 4064 is good for target, what is a good powder for hunting? or is 4064 the best all around?

I have used 4064 in mine and it worked well however i switched to Varget.

Varget is a little more temperature stable. It also dispenses a lot better if you have a powder dispenser.

Either powder would work well for hunting or target.

I use the Federal match primers and also Lapua brass. The Lapua brass is awesome in my opinion (but pricey).

too bad i lost track of the thread where i showed picture of the result of match kings on deer. They are FAR from being non-effective. How's 3 and more inches of exit wound sound to you?

If you hit the lungs I am sure a matchking may work well in some cases. They are just not really designed to expand + penitrate. With a standing shot the minute difference in accuracy that you would get from a match vs hunting bullet is so far overshadowed by human error why bother?
