Hey guys I know shot placement has alot to do with the bullets ability to kill. I normally hunt with 180gr but will 168gr do the job with thick skinned game like moose?

PS- Bullets will be shot out of a 300WM/30-06

You hit the moose in the boiler room, it's gonna die.

This forum needs a face-palm smilie. :D

12 grains ain't gonna make a difference, unless you miss.

Cheers

You have to remember that with Barnes TSX you can safely move your bullet weight down one or sometimes even two (ask Gatehouse and Bartell about the 300 with 150grn TTSX) 'levels' and obtain the same results you would with a lesser bullet (ie instead of 180grn try a 168/165 or even a 150). It's plenty of bullet for moose, elk, even grizz as long as you aren't shooting those nasty customer's at extreme long range. Hell my favorite moose rifle before I went over to the darkside and bought a 300wm was my .280 with 140gr TSX pills....one shot kills every time.

168s

NorthernPF,

There's more than enough poison in that pill. I use 180s myself, but my neighbour has been using 150gr PSPs in the same 30-06 for about 40 years, and has no problem taking Moose & Caribou with it.

Last year the biggest bull in my buddy's camp in Timmins was taken by an old timer with a Winchester 94 30-30. Half of the guys in that group use sporterized Lee-enfields (.303 British) & whatever bullets are cheapest at Canadian Tire! When they are sober enough to see straight they have no problem bringing down moose either. But when they're right liquored they see twice as many moose! :p

Happy hunting!
