16ga

I'm a huge fan of the 16, probably shooting 100 rounds of 16 for every 12 or 20 I shoot.

I shoot my own reloads almost exclusively.

I currently have 3 in the stable:

A J.B. Warrilow 16 bore boxlock built on a Bonehill "Clip Lump" action. It sports 30 inch barrels and weighs 6 lbs.

J. Y. Potter 16 gauge BLNE with 29" barrels, completely refinished and an absolute dream to hunt.

and a Philly Sterlingworth that I apparently have no photos of.

Mark, thanks for posting the pics of the Potter and the Warrilow again. I love looking at those two.

In 16 gauge I've got 5 ; 2 Piepers SxS, a Fox Sterlingworth SxS with ejectors, a Citori White Lightning (Only modern gun and only O/U) and a Heym SxS.

I foolishly sold my Win Model 12 16 two years ago. It dated to about 1957 and was in fantastic condition. Owned it since 1981. I'm an idiot! Oh well, I guess I need to buy another to replace it.

I also didn't buy a Manufrance Ideal 16 from Mark a few years ago. Again, I'm an idiot!

Love them all. Must buy more....

Hey mark that potter is one of the sweetest lookin guns I've eva seen. Thanks. I love sxs guns and since its a gun I'm likely not to use much I think ill wait till I find something very special. Thanks

I use 16's and love 'em, but they must be built on appropriate sized frames. Most 16's built on proper frames are lively, deadly and properly balanced. I think it is very unfortunate that so many 16's were built on 12 gauge frames. A 16 semi or pump built on a 12 ga frame is a mismatch that robs the queen of the uplands of her natural grace. A fine double built on a 16 ga or 20 ga frame is wonderful!
My 16's are a Merkel 211E/231E and a Browning Citori, and several drillings and combination guns.

I purchase my 16 ammo in case lots. I have purchased Remington game loads, RIO and kent upland loads at about 8.00 a box when purchased by the case. I bought every bit of Federal steel I could find when Canadian Tire was unloading it a year or two ago. When in a shop and you see 16 ammo ask the dealer if a bulk purcahse would sweeten the price a little. I bet it would.
regards, Darryl

where do you buy it in bulk? I'd like to buy a few flats.

I have 3 16s my favorite gun of all time, my grandpa's wingmaster, a refinished cooey 840 and an ugly little topper that is my truck/camping gun.
