Conceptually, it WILL.
The basis exists right now in big mean nasty TANKS BUT the rifle version is missing a wee bit of bits and pieces to make this whole shooter supported firing solution thingy work.
Also, anti aircraft toys. Look up Oerlikon (sp?) and their really cool quad 'shoot'em down' monster cannon.
Idea is this, crew "paints" a target and pulls the switch. Computer takes over - tracks target (fire and forget), begins to make target go away. While all the noise is going on, it measures TRUE muzzle velocity and ambient conditions which then can compute a better trajectory adjustment, target vectors, AND tracks tracers adjusting said stream of happy happy onto not so happy target.
It accounts for ALL firing solution variables (at least what we humans have stuffed into its brain), adjusts as needed, problem likely goes bye-bye.
As it is radar based, it will also pick up on friendly transponders allowing crew to not make friends unhappy.
From the Burris/Bushnell rangefinding scopes to this rig, the variables that can truly be measured are very limited so the output is greatly limited.
Ever shoot on a cool day vs a hot day? I bet your drop was off at 1000yds.
Cloudy day where sun pops in and out of clouds. Will the scope adjust elevation based on ambient light?
Multiple wind vectors. We have a hard enough time keeping up and we have FLAGS.
The equipment to do this DOES exist. Whether we will ever see a civy version that doesn't take crane to lift or a vault of gold to buy, I cannot say.
But right now, this is alot of FUN tech.
