Hey all,
I have been doing some pondering and have tossed the idea out to myself about getting another small calibre rifle. I have a bolt action Savage .22 win mag and I love it. The only problem is that it is twice the price as regular .22 lr shells and I fire them off non stop. I was also thinking about the .17 rifles. What do you think would be better and I dont want to spend a small fortune on it. Help me with some ideas and prices.

You can get .22lr as cheap .03 cents a round. I believe .17 is around .30 cents per round. So a 5 round grouping in .22lr costs .15 cents and a 5 round grouping in .17 costs $1.50.

So ask yourself how much you are willing to spend in an afternoon of shooting.

I reload .223 for under $0.30 (guesstimate) per round. Buy the .22 and have lots of fun.

.17HMR is more expensive than .22WM.

You could try a .17M2 if you're set on a .17, but since ammo costs are a concern, go with the .22lr...you can blast away for hours and still have beer money left over.
