i just got some stuff in the mail from SHOT, and on the back cover is a new cartridge announcement from Remington.
The 17 Fireball is a centrefire job, driving a 20 gr Accutip at 4000 fps.

I will find out more at the show and report it here.

Yes, I've heard rumours of this for the past few months, it's basically Remington doing what Remington does best - commercializing a popular wildcat, the 17 Mach IV in this case. It makes sense with the extreme popularity of the HMR.

I've recently purchased a 17 Rem, and depending on the condition of the bore I may have it set back and chambered for the mach IV/17 FB

Hornady's gotta be doing very well these days. They're hitting home run after home run - and now another new .17 cal with them still the only major manufacturer of .172 bullets. I wonder if they're publicly traded...

Has Remington done anything to the M700 mag to help feed the 221 fireball (ie. 17 Fireball) Seems like it'd be a real shorty.

Yes, my LVSF had a mag block and shorter follower.

If it preforms well it seems like it would make for a good .22lr conversion round

.22LR conversion? This is a big, high pressure cartridge compared to the rimfires, based on the .223 case. It will only fit centerfire actions, most that it will be used in will be .223 actions.
