I have a Glock 17 Gen 4 right now; not real complaints with it. I have a chance to basically swap it for a 34 gen 3 straight across. Has anyone here shot both? If so, what are any noticeable differences? If you had a 17 Gen 4, would you swap it for a 34 gen 3?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I much prefer the grip on Gen 4s and the multiple backstraps. I wouldn't move backwards but you could buy the 34 and have both.

In my opinion only buy the 34 if you plan to shoot idpa with it or ipsc standard. Otherwise i didn't see any significant difference in performance. Gen3 vs gen4? I prefer gen4 for the grip texture, multi backstrap, and easier reach for the mag release.

Agreed, I had a gen 3 34 and have a gen 4 17. I sold the 34. Found the 17 better for days at the range (non-competitive shooting), and agree with all posters regarding grip, backstraps, etc.

Interesting, I had a Gen 3 17 and a Gen 4 34. Sold the 17 for the opposite reason. I don't shoot competitively so I'd rather have the longer sight plane and lighter trigger.

I have smaller paws, so I always found the grip to be a bit uncomfortable on my gen 3. I actually upgraded all my glocks to gen 4 and now have 17, 19, 21, 22. I find them much more comfortable to shoot than their gen 3 equivalents.

Ah, from a grip size perspective it makes sense.
