I have been getting the ich to try out 17m2. I have been thinking about getting a barrel liner for an old bolt 22. Are there smiths that do the work, has anyone tried it, is it worth it (the debat over the 17 hm2 aside).
anyday now I should be recieving ,my order from brownells. Ordered 17cal and 22rf liners, and a17hmr reamer. Cost should be about 150.00 Dons Gunsmithing Rocky Mtn House Alberta 403 845-4805
I have relined and restored quite a few old 22 rifles and it works very well. I have been thinking about doing the .17 calibers on the 22 LR case but I haven't got around to buying any .17 liners yet... not a big market locally...
If the .17 liners shoot as well as the .22 liners have, it will be a great conversion... just that the ammo is a bit pricey....
I've got a BSA Martini I had relined and chambered in .17 HMR. Works fine but not quite up the reports of the new Marlins and Savages. Shoots about 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. Epps did mine.
The liners are usually considered to be so-so for accuracy - just to get an old gun shooting again.
