Can you find ammo now? Its a good round out to 200 though...
With the money that you save by purchasing a 17Mach2 instead of a 17HMR,you could more than pay for a Savage or Marlin rifle in one summers shooting.
I myself was impressed enough with the cartridge,that I purchased a Cooper rifle in 17Mach2.I purchased 12000 rounds of ammunition,so by the time that I shoot off those rounds,I will have saved about $1700(the price of the rifle)compared to shooting a 17HMR.

We just sold out of ammo again yesterday but have 500,000 rds due early in March.
Also, just got in a few CZ varmints in the cal but sold out before we even listed. Have a few CZ 452 Americians we will soon list.
We see a very steady demand year to year. Those that use it, really seem to like it.
I just bought a NIB savage for $149.00 from one of the forum dealers.(second HM2 gun I own) For that price, even if the ammo dries up in 5 years, which I don't think it will, I can simply trash it. Or find a 22lr barrel for it. Or sell whatever parts are interchangeable with other savage rimfires. In the meantime, it is a fun little cartridge to play with!

This cal is, apparently, very popular in the UK. Not likely the ammo will dry up with their demand...

Just checked my order confirmations. 100,000 rds Eley will be here in a few weeks, 300,000 in March, 100,000 more in June.
No supply issue yet!!

Where can you purchase 22 magnum loads for $6.50 per box of 50?As far as accuracy goes,in order for my 22lr Cooper to match the accuracy of my 17mach2 Cooper,I have to use premium 22lr loads that cost about as much as the 17Mach2 loads that I purchase.And the trajectory ,and the effect on small game aren't comparable.
If I am going to spend the price of 17HMR ammunition,I will just load for my 22 Hornet and totally outclass the 17HMR in every way,for about the same price.
You are trying to sneak an orange into a comparison of apples. The draw of HMR is that it moves at centerfire speed while still being a rimfire. The question about HM2 is...will it just disappear? As it stands, I can swing by Wally World and grab a box of HMR on the way to the pit. Not so with HM2.
The reality is that the market has shown that it prefers HMR to HM2, despite the things HM2 has going for it.

It may never be as popular as the HMR, however, it seems that most everybody that uses one, loves it. Most of the critics have never used one and can see no reason to own one.
It seems to be a very accurate round and does a number on gophers while, as SJ stated, costing approx the same as premium 22 lr.
If the amount of ammo that has gone out the door is an indication, the gopher population in the Lloydminster area has been partially kept in check by this little number.

I have bought all they had on hand, twice. Great round.
I checked out all the local gun store (that's right, store - no "s") and they say that it's very hard to get. I have plenty of .22LRs and was just looking for something with a little more reach. I guess I'll go with the .22mag. At least then I'll be able to get it at Walmart or CT whenever the gun store isn't open.

Just picked up a rifle from Clay. My second in that caliber. My other is a converted 10/22
which is great but I wish I could find a high capacity mag that would allow it to be awesome! I suspect that a teardrop shape mag would do the trick however I have a hard time finding them.

I'm surprised nobody has said this yet, but...in theory if you stockpile thousands and thousands (and thousands) of rounds of HM2, the ammo problem is not really a problem anymore. The probable obsolescence of the caliber will still mean you can shoot it as long as you have ammo left, *but* very few of the new guns will be chambered for it...and there is the rub.
It's also been suggested that HMR ammo has a higher profit margin (which is very believable), and as such there's been a push from inside the industry to move in that direction.
