Hey guys~maybe I've had one too many Savages over the years, but I'm contemplating getting back into HMR and thinking about getting an Anschutz to fill that spot. Probably won't (owing to the $) but part of me would rather wait until it's possible rather than compromise and get anything else. If it isn't one of these (1517 heavy barrel?) than I'd probably be inclined to go with the best shooter for the money, Savage. What I THOUGHT would be the last Savage in my collection is the FV-SR I got last year but I find I like that rifle more than I thought I would. When they announced it in 17HMR and 22WMR, I wondered about getting the HMR version and since then...have read promising accuracy reports on it. I own, or have owned CZ, Marlin, Savage, Anschutz (1450), Cooey, Winchester, Chiappa and Norinco rimfires so feel that I have a pretty good handle on what you get for the money. Guess I'm wondering if Anschutz HMRs bring anything to the table accuracy-wise that say....CZ doesn't. In the interest of full disclosure, the most accurate rimfire I ever owned was a CZ452 Varmint in 17HMR. The only rifle I ever regret selling too.

Curious to hear about your Anschutz HMR, see photos, hear experiences, etc. etc. Thanks for chiming in!

Not sure what you expect to hear other than what you all ready know. The Anschutz 17hmr, is likely the most accurate on the market, the new 1727f will likely become the benchmark for the 17hmr. If you don't want to spend that kind of money and come really really really close in accuracy and smoothness then take a hard look at the sako quad in 17 hmr. I have owned many annies, and for the $$$ have to say the sako in 17 is a better value buy.

I guess I was expecting to hear how much users like them, maybe see some photos....? Also trying to get a sense of how many people on here bypassed the "lesser" HMRs and went straight for the Anschutz and never looked back. The name is synonymous with .22lr as far as I'm concerned, I've just seen/heard/read WAY less about their HMRs. The 1727 is a marvel for sure, but my marriage wouldn't survive a purchase like that. My first 3 cars (combined) didn't cost that much. :) I've never even held a Sako, I'll look into that option, read some reviews, etc.

I would suggest you check on rimfirecentral, as there are not a lot of 17 hmr annies in use in Canada. I bet there are less than 100 and most of those guys aren't on Canadian gunnutz.

Can't go wrong!

It is the most comfortable gun I've ever handled as well as the most accurate. Super smooth action and very quick and quiet too!

Only actual disappointment I have is 4 round magazines. 5 would work out nicer for the sake of how 17HMR is packaged, but 4 rds means the magazines don't stick out a bunch below the forestock.

Wish there was a sporter stock like this one for an 1827F barreled action....

I have also been thinking about getting an anschutz chambered in .17 hmr. I have owned a few .17s and loved them. I do have a .22 anschutz, and it is by far my favorite of any I have every owned, worth the money. I would go for it

Kinda pricey if you just think about it as another "rimfire rifle". But it has become my go-to gun for pests around the yard rather than a shotgun. I'm much more likely to get pigeons or magpies from a greater distance with this, than to hope to get close enough for shotgun range. It's not overly loud and the action is fast and smooth and makes follow-up shots very quick without even losing my aim.

Now that I've got it, it was absolutely worth the wait. Just expect to be in it for the long haul if you opt to buy one. I would likely not see my investment returned to me if I were to sell it, and I would miss it dearly if I had to get rid of it!
