For those that were following this thread the range trip didn't cure the problem. No matter what ammunition was used the groups were erratic and the odd one hit the paper sideways, various ranges tried 25,50,100 yds and no bullet stability could be found. Although I can't see it, there must be a loose spot in the bore. The problem will be repared with a new barrel, I will give up on this one. David.

Any idea on the barrel? Just seems so odd, thanks for the update!

Solution to problem

Seems the factory replacment barrel was out of the question, so before throwing the whole thing in the CZ Parts box I decided to cut and crown the barrel although I could not see any blemish even with good light and a magnifying glass.
I took an inch off, cut an 11 degree crown and went to the range for the last time just because I enjoy the torment.
Surprise, surprise, its back to shooting tight groups again with none going through the paper sideways.
I guess the lesson to be learned here is its very hard to see whats going on down a 17 cal bore even at the muzzle. For you guys that were following this thread thanks for your suggestions, its been one of those (learned something new today moments) Regards David.
