17 hmr OR 22 wmr??!!

The crowd here seems pretty split b/w 17 and 22 wmr. My vote would be the 17 or 22lr. Nothing against the 22 wmr but I just really like the speed of the hmr. If you're hunting bunnies in the bush I'm pretty sure that you will never see a 150-200 yard shot. Use a 22 lr.
If you want to take head shots on rabbits and blow up tomatoes and pay too much for ammo, get a 17 or a 22 mag. If it was me I'd use a 17 but I really like mine. I use it almost exclusively for gophers but I've taken a few rabbits with it.
My 22 mag doesn't see much use anymore. I always go for the 10/22 or the 17.

thanks a lot everyone for your time and input... i got the .22 wmr....
now the only thing left is to figure out where the bunnies are around calgary!!!
btw... i had a .22 lr that i just gave to a young enthusiast....
wish us luck, and if any of you hunts rabbits around calgary and looking for company, plz let me know

cheers

Depends if you are for the eating or just varmint eradication. Both magnum rounds are overkill and destroy the rabbit to the point of being unconsumable. The "lowly" .22 is very sufficient for small game and much less costly.

If you have deep pockets, the .17 would be the better of the two. But personally, I have not found either more efficient than the .22 in the long run. I have removed thousands of varmints in the past 2 summers and never had the need for anything but a .22 out to 200 yards.

As a .22 fan how high is the holdover on a gopher at two hundred yards?
