17 hmr & silhouette target

I've just gotten into 22lr silhouette shooting and it is fantastically fun.

Is there anything similar for 17 hmr? Is the 17 hmr too hard on the targets used for the 22lr?

The rifle silo matches that are sanctioned through SRAC or matches that adhere to NRA Silhouette rules.For sanctioned silhouette matches 22LR up to high velocity ammo (about 1200fps) is accepted. Hyper velocity ammo(Stingers, Vipers,YellowJackets etc) is not approved and the 17 rimfires do cause excessive damage to the targets. AFAIK there are no matches for 17 rimfire.

I can personally vouch for the damage they do to targets ;-)
We have one of those resettable spinning metal targets for .22lr, which my boys shoot at 50yds.
Figured I'd try a few shots with my .22WMR.
Maybe at 100yds it would have been okay...but at 50yds within a few shots the metal disks were really taking a beating...I know that if I'd kept it up for a box of ammo I'd likely have killed the thing.

Making your own targets out of substantially hardened steel would be an option.
When I first started shooting silhouette, the steel was of a mild variety. The target were set facing one direction for one match, and the opposite direction on the next day.
At the end of the day, the chickens had a noticeable bend to them.
The last I heard, a set of 22 Silhouette targets were around $500. A set for your purpose would be substantially higher.

I think the same targets are fine, but you'd need to move them back to 100yard or more.....which you'd most likely want to do with a .17hmr anyway just to make it interesting.
