.17 hmr - which one?

Just wondering what guys are shooting in this caliber? Thinking of getting one just for a “fun gun” mostly, maybe the odd grouse and rabbit- so a hunting style rifle. Have seen a few on line but mostly lower end bolt action guns. Leaning towards a lever action but not opposed to a quality bolt.
Thanks.

CZ 452, 452, 455 ....
But, the 17hmr is a bit overkill for a grouse gun.

I was a .22 guy forever. Went out shooting gophers with a few buddies using .17s had to buy one.

Looked at quite a few, tried a few, landed on the Savage due to parts and magazine availability. Loved the high end guns but when I really thought about my shooting is not much bench shooting (gets boring) I was going to be spending more time in the field.

My guns are not safe queens, so wood stocks in the field worry me that is why my German bolt action stays in the safe.

Got a light, handling, inexpensive, pack friendly Savage that really shoots great, love the trigger, added a few bits I had. Really liked shooting the Ruger Precision in .17, not seeing much else used for field/truck guns other than Rugers and Savages in my group, but any .17 is going to be fun.

Have some gopher .17 pics, but they are nasty!

Browning T-Bolt Target/Varmint. I love the straight pull bolt, it's super fast. Gun is extremely accurate.

* I didn't buy it from Cabelas and I didn't pay that much but this was the only place that came up in stock in my quick Google search.

That's the one I have to. Had a savage FVSS that shot just as well but always wanted a t-bolt

I'm very partial to my CZ 455 Canadian. Can't see a single thing wrong with it at all. Some ammo is better than others, but that is not the rifle.

I have a CZ 455 American combo with .22lr and .17hmr barrels.
The HMR shoots great with any ammo (20gr the XTP best though). Even with match grade (17hmr $ prices) 22lr ammo, I can't get the same accuracy with the 22lr barrel.

I love my CZ 455 Lux II in 17HMR, laser beam at 50 yards with nice light scope. That long barrel somehow makes it fun to shoot, it does not make that weir muzzle crack like my now gone Savage 93 BVTS used to. The Savage never really grew on me somehow. The CZ Lux is light, shoots easy off hand and from bench rest. It certainly is a looker.

I picked up a savage 93R17 a couple years ago. Its got a heavy barrel so equipped it with a small bipod and I love it. I find it great for plinking and small varmint extermination. I would recommend it to the hobbyist like myself.
