I'm looking for a .17 HMR or .22 that I can get a nice weaver rail to mount a Yukon NVRS on for exercises and other things, though the weapon does not NEED to be a tacticcool.

I'd just like something that shoots decently straight. Not looking to break the bank. Thought about getting an ISCC Scar but... Ideally I'd like to keep this sub 300

Recommendations? :)

You didn't say which action you prefer??? For under $300 you are somewhat limited... I would probably recommend a Savage MKII FV model in .22 LR, or better yet; in HM2... Or the Savage 93R17 FV HMR... if you want to do alot of shooting LR is the cheapest way to go... the Savage rifles are quite accurate and can be modified with aftermarket parts. I would recommend getting the DIP (Diversified Innovative Products) one piece scope rail and heavy magazine plate. Another good way to go is the Savage FV-SR model which comes with a decent rail, 16" heavy/threaded barrel for about $225. The pics below are Savage rifles...
