I was looking at the new 17 hornet case today in a Saskatoon gunshop, then the sales guy says no rifles till at least summer. Kind of a bummer when he said that, i may have been tempted. Looks like it will be fun but if you have fat fingers loading is going to hurt.

Who is making this brass?

Hornady. The rifle is a Savage model 25. Read a test of that rifle/cartridge and it is quite impressive. I am seriously considering one.

However there are a few posts out of the US noting Hornady has some quality control issues, namely bottom of primer pockets and flash holes.

I would consider forming from 22 hornet until Hornady gets their QC sorted out.

Hey dead meat, if you wouldn't mind send me a PM with the name of the gun shop in Saskatoon. I have a 17 hornet on order at my local gun shop but they are a small shop and the guy behind the order desk says he probably can't get me any brass or dies this year. I would sure hate to have a new gun show up and not be able to shoot it. I'm hoping to have all my parts and components before the rifles come out as stuff will be hard to get after I think.

this is very similar to the .17 HMR of a few years ago.
They had the guns out before ammo was available in Canada.
IIRC Anschutz was importing the rifle to Canada before the ammo was made available.
Then there was the 325 WSM where Browning was producing the gun and ammo was taking up to a year to gain entry into the country.
I am sure there are other examples and I am chalking up to marketing hype and nothing more.
Tight Groups and Happy Shooting.
