17 Hornet?

The accuracy reviews are done with factory ammo, plus who knows how good these guys are behind the rifle, with all due respect.
We all read and watch these reviews, and some people just simply are limited to how good they can shoot.
Plus as you well know, anyone can write a review on the internet, and anyone can give you medical advice as well.
I believe, if you can fin a Ruger first, they are scarce t the moment, you can tune he ammo for the barre.
You can change powder charge or seating depth(which is very critical for accuracy, by the way) and get good results.
Plus the Ruger is better built.
 
To be honest, I have never kept count on how many reloads I can get. If it's bad I throw it out.
Plus all 17's fowl up very fast. Tiny hole, lots of juice.
Plus the CZ is cheaper by quite a bit and it's an import.
To get one from the US, Now, It will cost you close to $2000 Canadian. Call Prophet River and check for yourself.

My comments on accuracy are based on trying several load combinations with my Ruger, two combinations with my CZ, and only one combination with my Cooper. I tried more load combinations with the Ruger, because I kept trying to find a combination that it would shoot well. It wouldn't shoot as accurately as the CZ or the Cooper with any load combination. Some rifles simply don't shoot as well as other regardless of the load that you try. I was shooting all three rifles myself ,using the same bench and rest, and ideal conditions for each rifle, so the shooter is a consistent. As to your claim that the Ruger is better built, that is your opinion. After looking at the bedding/ recoil lug design used on the Ruger in 17 Hornet, it's easy to understand why they don't use it on their other centerfire rifles. It was only after bedding the Ruger, and using a file to better fit the recoil lug assembly that it did start to shoot better, although still not as accurately as the other two rifles. The Ruger trigger is pure garbage compared to the trigger on the CZ. As I posted previously, after actuall owning the Ruger and the CZ, I would recommend the CZ.
 
I have a savage mk 25 in 17 hornet. i have a cheap simmons 4-18 and its accurate at 100 yds for sure. i can get a whole clip inside a dime all day long. it does however not like to cycle well. if you smoothly #### the bolt it cycles, but if you go slow and clunky it will pinch every time. i have heard you can polish the bolt face and it does remedy the problem. i do enjoy the wood laminate, its pretty and shoots dead straight
 
Well then I will look at prairie gun trader instead! I really like the way the ruger 77's shoulder and feel with my Kong arms but I can't stand the cheesy cast receivers. I don't know what it is but cast metal guns irritate me....strong enough for sure but ya.. The ruger also looks waaaay better to me but the cz is in my opinion probably highe quality barrel wise and probably has a forged receiver for the few that care about that's one details lol I'm too picky I know. Back when the savage 25 came out I had one in 223 laminate stock. Was actually a pretty nice rifle! But it had gloss bluing and new ones are a matte finish I think. I always enjoyed my 17hmr on gophers when they sold for 12-14$ a box. Not 20-22$ a box :(. The hornet I'm sure has a lot more steam behind it for 2-300 yard gopher kills :)
 
Yes Sir now you're talking. Be patient and you will find one. Just imagine a tiny cartridge that you can tune, awesome.

You got it! :) hoping to get a but of a deal on a new one lol I think I'll like the 17 hornet more than I liked my 204. 17 hornet and a 223 seem like a good pair to own

I decided to see how many shots I could get out of brass. So, I did an experiment. I took 3 pieces and fired them till they broke, or I felt they were really unsafe. 9 shots in the CZ would be safe before case head was starting to look scary. YMMV. Then I took another 3 pieces and lubed the brass with a very light film of spray on lithium grease wiped on the case before firing. 35 shots and the first neck cracked. There was no case head expansion, or primer pocket expansion. Primer pickets were still tight. The necks cracked from work hardening. I want to, but haven't had time to redo the same experiment with the lubing, and annealing ever 3 shots.

These were not kind loads. They were clocking out of the barrel at right around 3600 fps. Brass was hornady. Primers were remington 6.5.
 
I'm amazed at the difference in simply wiping the cases with a grease makes that massive of a difference in life span of the casings. Super cool! Makes cost oer shot more affordable too. Wonder what your cost per shot would be

The grease or lube has to be very thin, and very slick... Dricote or silicone might work. But I'm not sure about ease of removel from the chamber if it becomes necessary...

Ya. I was amazed too... In the 270, I've got 12 shots on each piece of 20 brass that was pushing a 150 gr bullet at around 3100 fps. Primer pockets in 19 are still tight. The 20th was lose from the factory, and I decided to roll with it as an experiment. No stretching, no primer pocket loosening...

I haven't gotten around to doing that on other rifles yet. I got a few other things I want to handle outside of the gun world first before I get back to firing till failure experiments.

A lot of people on this forum or others disagree with me. I think they're wrong...
 
Bit of an update here. I ended up purchasing the Savage Model 25 in 17 Hornet and kept the CZ. I couldn't help myself $400 all in. I have a couple hundred rounds through it so far and have had no issues at all with it. I would say accuracy is very close to my CZ.

It prefers Nosler 20 gr bullets and shoots equally well with Lil Gun or 1680. Waiting for a gopher day for field trials.
