Now that Savage, and Hornady have teamed up to produce this, who is interested?

Muzzle velocity is over 3,600 fps with a 20-grain bullet. I am!!!

I definitely am especially if SAKO chambers it. I would have preferred the fireball but it seems to be dying out. Who all has anounced that they will chamber the .17HH?

I wonder what the factory ammo will sell for. I still like my 17FB though.

They already had one of those years ago. It's called the 17 ackley hornet. This appears to be a scaled down .223. Definitely disappointed. It's not a hornet if it doesn't have a RIM.

Huh......what the hell was I looking at?

Ooohhh.....I see now.....the cutaway pic of the cartridge on the .17 hornet page IS a .223. In that case, i might have to look into one. $25 for 25? A little steep for subcalibre ammo. Last .22 hornet stuff I saw was $35 for 50.

17

If I didn't already have a 19 Calhoon, I'd like to try the 17 HH. There is a great small caliber web site in the USA called saubier.com, 223 is a big round for these boys. FS

Its in my plans for this spring. I have been wanting a model 25 with the laminate thumbhole and now i have an excuse:D If I like it i will be retiring my HMR

I think that the .17 Fireball would be a more accurate round, just based on case design, some outfits may not chamber the .17 Hornet because of the rim in bolt guns. I would think it would be dandy in a falling block single shot or a rebarreled Martini.

Because the Hornet has a cult following in North America...Mention both the Hornet and FN 5.7×28mm to some shooters, and see for yourself...

Almost all the ammo Co.'s are tooled to make Hornet brass. One more set of resize dies is pretty cheap tooling to add a caliber to the catalog.

On the other hand, I see guys looking for 5.7 brass or ammo here pretty regularly. It doesn't seem to have the market penetration. Too bad. Looks like a slick little varmint round.

Yep. Waiting to see how this plays out. Was considering a 17AH for a Martini. Paying for standard dies rather than custom ($33 vs. $135 or so) , and being able to buy brass pre-formed to start off, seems a pretty good deal. One of the fellas on the Saubier forum is saying that the chamber dimensions are pretty tight, so it sounds like brass working on resize is going to be minimal.

Not a huge change from the Ackley, just enough to be different. Be interesting to see, among other things, if the HH chamber will still leave enough meat to clean it out to an AH, and if the HH cases will form out to fill an AH chamber without a lot of fuss.

Gonna wait and see how it works out. From the sounds of things, Hornady has worked close with Savage on this one, and most of the others have been left in the dark so are not looking at chambering the 17HH yet. One of the fellas on aubier has been dealing directly with the NA office of CZ on this, and it didn't sound too promising there, for now.

Cheers
Trev
