.22LR or .223 get my vote! sold my 17hmr, I can push more bullets back into the .223 shot brass ...if I wanted velocity I'd build a .204

I know many of the issues have been with the Savage B-Mag rifles. Also some reports of cracked necks on the cases. It's been mentioned that CCI and Federal may start making the ammo as their parent company ATK also owns Savage.

I have heard some good reports about the Winchester 1885 low wall but try obtaining one!

My buddy had bad groups but he was hitting gophers fairly easily and it is a very devastating round. Made me almost want a b mag, but I think I'll wait for other options

Wasn't somebody saying the brass for these was based off Hilti nail gun blanks? Have only seen the Savage rifles so far...and not much for boolits on the shelf.

really??? where did have been mentioned????

I know 2 fellas that are extremely happy with the heavy barrel version, one of them had to return the first regular barrelled one he originally got as it grouped terrible. I'm waiting for one to come out with a decent wood stock on it and then maybe...

My brother just bought one of the regular barrel versions ,seems like a nice little rifle and the rotary magazine (8 shot) keeps things nice and neat.

I do find however ,that the bolt (when in the down and locked possition)is a little close to the trigger and a little bit in the way.The rifle is made scope ready ,just rings are needed.

NOW !!!!!! Try and find some ammo !!!!!!

I just saw a blued heavy barrel fluted model on Cabelas web site yesterday. Looks like Savage is investing a lot into a rifle and and cartridge that some people say is going to fail. There is a video on on You Tube about ammo testing showing up to 190 fps in velocity spreads from a single box of ammo. Until there is consistency in the ammo the best rifle in the world isn't going to shoot to it's potential. It would be nice to see CCI come into the game and produce the ammo as well.
Just my 2cents.

.25 caliber Industrial driver loads that Winchester already had a line set to make, if the original article I read on them is to be believed.

I said in an earlier post, that I figured it was the answer to the question nobody asked. The firearm choices are either too cheap or too expensive (Savage/Win 1885, no middle ground) and the ammo prices are close enough to reloading that a .17 HH or Ackley Hornet would make a much or more sense. Or a cartridge based off that 5.7x28 case, for the guys that don't want to play with those antique style rimmed, thin walled, cartridges.

And there is no real hanger-on in the wings, that your .17WSM can be rechambered to, in the event (that seems likely to me) that the ammo dries up.

.17's have had a reputation for being both load and cleaning sensitive, since about the first guy got the idea that a really small bullet going really really fast, would be fun.

Seems to me that a few guys are getting decent ones,, very few are getting really good ones, and a bunch of guys are getting duds. Seems a recipe to me, to leaving my wallet in my pocket.

Cheers

This is where my thoughts are heading.
Maybe just use the old standby Ole 69A fer dem dere gofers.
Figuring maybe a wee bit more Ker-pow would be funner.
Hollow points, where dah fruck did I put them..................

Maybe a 22 Hornet is in order then?.............K the thang.

I`m like my brother ,the more calibers and crazy loads the better.Shoot ,I bought the old Marlin semi-auto (heavy barrel) in .17HM2 and love that little bugger.....fun to shoot !

I don`t use it for critters ,cause for that i have a 17HMR ,.17 REM Fireball ,.204 Ruger ,.22 Hornet .22-250 etc etc !

See ,I like collecting calibers and guns......cause i`m a GUN NUT LOL !!

I`d probably get one and stock up on a few 1000 rounds ,just because .Although I can probably seeing this gun going the way of those WSSMs and the .17HM2....who knows , just another for the collection.
