.17 Win Super Mag / Savage B.mag - where did it go?

I saw a big stink about this new .17 rimfire round and the centerfire-ish platform built to support the case pressures, then nuthin.
I'm not seeing any listings, ammo, or traces from Savage - maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

This seemed to offer significant advantages over the HMR round and jumped over 22 WMR ballistically and fpe out to 250 (wind notwithstanding).

Anyone seen this sucker poking out of a vendor site or even in store?

i was thinking about this one aswell, seems like everything big that was announced has came to a hault with recent politics south of the border

Only thing I have for info is my dealer has them on order and is expecting delivery in April-May time frame. He didn't even have any pamphlets or documentation on it.

Yep. Standard problem of gun industry sales-n-spin being a few months ahead of the product being available.

Saying I have no interest in buying one is an understatement, but it is going to be interesting to see how this plays out, given that the firearms scheduled to come out in this cal are either going cheap (the Savage) or expensive (the Win 1885 Low Wall).

Have already spoken with a couple guys that just plain don't like the looks of the Savage, and won't shell out for the Winchester.

Cheers

I'm going to play with the Savage and see what comes out down the road. It's affordable enough that you should be able move it when new models come out without taking a huge loss. The The 1885 is out of reach for a lot of people but I would guess the people who buy one won't be planning to sell anytime soon.

I am excited for it, but don't realistically expect to have one before this time next year.

A buddy of mine had one of the first HMR's brought into Canada, it had some production flaws. Then I was an early adopter of the .204 and the first summer I had to get by with only 80 rounds. (Was worried until I ordered die set from Hornady and got .20 bullets).

With this in mind I am in no hurry, but I do see this replacing the HMR for my use anyways.

Some reading on the Cartridge and where it fits in the scheme of things.
Gist I'm gathering is if you're a reloader this is an answer to a question that's not worth discussing.
But then you've already got a centerfire .172 to load for.

What seems to have not yet been said that I can find is that there has been some modification done to the projectile to increase SD and BC.
I cannot help thinking that those mods could be applied to existing HMR cartridges with a lot of the gains, and same loads as current .17HMR @ .30$ a round.
Whether the .17WSM is worth to effort remains to be seen.

The current HMR can't take any more powder or pressure, so just do you propose to alter it with out altering the rifles that are used to fire it. FS

Not at all.
My point was that there was work done on the WSM projectile which adds to it's function.
Sectional density and ballistic coefficients are different.
No reason it could not benefit HMR at existing loads. I know the case in WSM is supposedly thicker with pressures from 26kpsi to 33kpsi HMR/WSM.
That alone might buy an extra 25yards, half what a new cartridge and rifle are required for.
The grain weights are the same...

A couple gun stores I talked to in Alberta said the Savage B-MAG was on order and expected in late April early May. Well it is late April (the 26th) Has anyone seen a B-MAG?

While waiting for one I have fallen for a CZ 527 in .223 and may just buy it instead.

they have it listed in the new fall cat pages at lebaron for 299$ with expected arrival for june???? i will definately pull the trigger and get one when they arrive.

Dont get your hopes up. I've been on a waiting list for a Savage model 42 in wmr for over a year now. Ordered and paid for it the first day it was anounced. The sad thing is its been out for quite a while down in the US. Not one yet in Canada. So when you see it for sale all over the US, add one year and thats when Savage will bring it to Canada
