.17 winchester super magnum....thoughts?

Just saw the new cartridge from winchester any thoughts from the peanut gallery? What platforms would you like to see it in personally a nice little varmint AR would be sweet or even like a mock rimfire m14 .... Love the 17 hmr sure ill love this more..
 
Already ordered one of the Savage B Mags. Would like to see it come out in a CZ 527 medium to heavy barrel. They alredy make it in 22 hornet so it would just be a matter of machining a new bolt with a firing pin for rimfire and rechamber.. Don't think it would be that difficult of a change over. Maybe.....

I'm with you on a 527 that would be a winner for sure, would be cool to see a pistol made for it, or even somthing with a longer barrel. See how far you could reach out with it
 
I wonder if you couldn't take some of the 5mm guns and convert them? I know there would be a lot of people happy if they could as long as ammo for these doesn't dry up as well?

The case size on the 17 WSM at the base is .008" larger. The 17 WSM overall length is .290 longer. That works out to less than 1/64" wider base and 1/4" longer OAL than a 5mm.

The only other issues would be relining the barrel,would the magazine take the longer shells and would the actions take the higher pressures.

Oh ya and the cost to convert. I always forget the cost part for some reason ?????

That would be one sweet little combo.. also, where the hell did you order yours from? Anywhere online? I can't find them anywhere and my local shops don't seem to have a clue.

Yes, let us all know how she shoots! I've been wondering for a while if they'd get a rimfire up to center fire velocities 3000 fps just sounds so sweet from that small package !
 
Ooooo looks like brownings gonna have it in the 1885 nice little gun I think ill have my name in for that one when it hits shelves

I was not really interested until the 1885 was mentioned. To he honest I doubt I'll buy one, I have a .22 mag, and can hardly justify ammo costs for that.

I also have an accurate, reloadable 223 that works just fine.

I couldn't find any mention of the 1885 on Brownings website either. Maybe I missed it some how...

Supposed to be a Low Wall 1885 in the new .17 Money Sucker cal., under the Winchester line.

I fired a couple of rounds at the SHOT media day. Not enough to test accuracy by any means, but it makes a very satisfying CRACK!
 
This is huge news for the rimfire world, a completly new case that is not based off .22 lr or mag. Ammo will be the same cost as reloading .223. I sure won't be getting rid of any centerfires but it will be great to be able to grab a 3000 fps gun and box of ammo when I don't have time to reload.
