Is Henry or anyone else going to come out with a .17 WSM lever anytime soon? I'm really liking this cartridge.

Personally I think it will follow the 5 mm rimfire myself. Any varmint hunters that want more then the hmr are going with proven center fires and the Hornady hornet is gaining a larger following

I would like to see a affordable 10/22 clone. I have the Bmag and a Winchester Low Wall in this caliber, love the way the Low Wall shoots. But I don't think it will be over popular.

The 17 WSM is a different case and chamber size so there is considerable invesment on the part of the manufacturers to tool up to make rifles in 17 WSM. They will wait a few years and see if the calibre becomes popular. I had considered the 17 WSM cartridge myself but the only real option right now is a Ruger 17/77 and the 77 series is not the best rimfire action in my opinion. If I pay $1000 for a rifle I shouldn't have to shim out bolt slop...

Just had a question such as this at work the other day - "who is chambering rifles in 17WSM".

A quick check in the 2016 listing from the wholesalers showed only Savage (7 models) and Ruger (2 models) in the 2016 line-up.

Now I didn't check the smaller mfg's like Cooper or Kimber, but from the "biggies", that was it.

When you can't even get a Winchester rifle chambered in 17 WSM it may be on it's way to "orphan" status.

And as far as Henry goes, they might be a little scarce on the shelves this year.

Henry upped their factory prices between 10 and 15% depending on the model (for 2016). That happened just as our buck was dropping to 72 cents US. So the wholesale price we paid in December 2014 for stuff on the shelves is now 40 to 45% higher (December 2015 wholesale prices).

I have Henry's on the rack with a selling price 150 bucks "less" than the new "wholesale price" - so at least I didn't order any Henry's for this year. The buck is going to have to improve a whole lot because I just don't see the base model lever or pump selling much at close to a 700 dollar sticker price.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I have 17 Mach 2, 17 HMR,17 Hornet and 17 Fireball. I would add a 17 WSM when someone makes one that is accurate. Plus a 17 Remington if I could find one. Can never have too many 17s apparently.

I have a 17mach2, a 17hmr, a 17hornet and a 17fireball, but I have absolutely no interest in a 17wsm. I wouldn't even bother with the 17hmr if Eley was still making 17machj2 ammunition.

Stubblejumper I feel your pain. Sounds like you may like the 17s as well. Love my Mach 2s as well. My favorite gopher recipe. But I would still try the WSM just because. Tempted to try a B mag with bull barrel. But still holding off. Ruger too expensive and have heard Low walls are not good shooters. So Ruger $1000 and Win $1300 plus. No thanks. Should shoot one hole groups for that money. Maybe ammo issues? Jury still out in my mind.

Thought of maybe doing an H&R conversion if I could find a builder. But am in no rush.

I also have the 17 mach 2, 17 hmr, 17 hornet and now the 17 wsm. Not going to try the 17 wsm out until this spring but have already replaced the factory trigger. Know two people that have the Winchester single shots and they are very happy with their rifles accuracy out to two hundred meters. I used to have a volquartsen 17 mach2 (was a fantastic gopher gun and probably my favourite rimfire rifle of all time) but foolishly traded it off. Am thinking about building a new one though.

Winchester has done such a poor job advertising their 17 wsm rifle that most people don't seem to be aware that it exists.

I don't think Winchester was even interested in selling the rifle. It was expensive and limited quantity. I suspect the only reason they made it is because they make the cartridge in their name, they probably felt they needed at least one rifle to show support of it.
Friend of mine has one. He was really unhappy with it. Could never get a decent group out of it.

I still think if someone made one in a tacticool package that was accurate and functional, it would sell well. Lots of pop and 30 round magszines,oh my :)

A bit off topic but can anyone comment on the WSM's sound report vs HMR? Makes a difference to me in the gopher patches.

I've had my WSM out when a friend had his HMR out, you can notice the difference hearing the two firing beside each other, but if you don't hear them in comparison, like if you walked up to someone while they were shooting an HMR or WSM you probably wouldn't recognize which was which without a lot of time around the two rifles.

Franklin Armory makes the AR17 which is another manufacturer of the 17 WSM as well, though you'd have to get irunguns or prophet river to bring it up for you.

I'm happy with my Bmag as well, though it's been modified beyond recognition
