took my 1885 in 17 WSM to the range for the 1st time yesterday.Waited two years for it, Nice looking gun, well balanced, functioned flawlessly. Couldn't keep a good group with iron sights. I bought it because I figured it would be a good iron sight candidate,as the impact point changed so little from 100 to 200 yards. And I would rather hunt rimfire with iron sights. It cost over 1500$. I found the rear sight loose in the dove tail. Put a shim in today and will return to the range next week.
My B Mag was a little over 300$ taxed out. Put a 30$ 3X9 scope on top and sighted it in at 100meters with 10 rounds. Hunting ground hogs, dispatched one at lasered 211 meters. The safety doesnt work any more so can't load chamber until ready to shoot. Will fix that eventually unless this 1885 is sour. Compared spent cases and the cases from the 1885 had expanded at bottle neck 1.03 thou more than the cases from the B Mag consistently some split bottle necks. Have never had problems with other guns from Japan. But this one is really looking iffy. As far as B Mag vs 1885 won't know 100% till next week. But for the money, mine is on the B Mag Will follow up for any interested

I looked at one 1885 17WSM, at first glance it was apparent that the sling studs were not properly installed. Seems like sloppy fit and finish on a $1500 gun.
